M. Sloan, hernia on both sides; W. R. Hall, physical disability. REPORTS OF' SUPERINTENDENT OF HEALTH AND COUNTS' PHYSICIAN. Dr. J. C. Sbepard, County Physician, made his report for August, showing tbat therexvere 82 inmates in the County Home, 9 prisoners in the House of Cor rection, and 17 prisoners in the County Jail, all these institutions being veil kept and in good sanitary condition. The report of Dr. W. D. McMillan, Superintendent of Health, stated that in August he had prescribed for 809 pa tients at the office and made 105 visits to 74 paupers at their homes. MISCELLANEOUS. Tbe application of Edward S. Callum to be sent vith bis children to Aiden, S. C. was referred to the Associated Charities. Willie Croom, Masonboro township, vas allowed $1.00 a month. Bill of Pender county for expense on account of a pauper and insane man John Sellers, who, the Pender county commissioners claimed, vas a native of New Hanover, vas disallowed, with orders to notify the commissioners of Pender county that Sellers was not a native of this county. A J. Marshall, Esq , appeared in ref erence to a dispute between the.over seers of the new Federal Point road and the chairman of tbe Board of Road Su pervisors, the former ot whom desire tbe new Federal Point road wotksd and the latter the old road. After Mr. Marshall had explained the tituation, a motion was passed authorizing the county at torney to give the proper notices and have tbe new road worked. Mr. Marshall also introdaced a peti tion for the release of Charles Fisher, colored, from the County Work House on the ground that he had been suffi ciently punished. Referred to city at torney. Col. Moore stated that Mr. L. D onerry naa oeen appointed to survey lands for Mr. A. L. Winner. A communication was read from Daniel Reld, steward of Eastern Hos pital, Goldsboro, asking that $4 60 be re funded the hospital, that amount hav ing been advanced to a New Hanover patient leaving the hospital May 11. The report of Col. Jno. D. Taylor, C S. C, showed that he had collected and paid over to the treasurer the following amounts for tbe school fund : $25.00 from the C. W. Polvogt Company for charter) $25 00 from the American Union Astociation for charter, and $15.00 from the Wilmington Livery Sta ble Company for a charter. Sheriff E. Hewlett exhibited receipts for the sum of $95,816 05, the amonnt ot State and coanty tax collected by him for the year 1898. The Star is sincerely grieved to an nounce the death of Miss Daisy King Manning, youngest daughter of Capt. E. W. and Mrs. Margaret F. Manning. Tbe sad event occurred at a quarter to six o'clock Sunday afternoon at the family residence, Wrightsville. It was sudden and unexpected. Sae had not been perfectly well for a day or two and Sunday she was feeling too unwell to leave her room, bat ber condition did not become serioas until the afiernooc- The deceased wis a young lady of many noble qualities. Tbe sweetness of her disposition and toe attractiveness of her manners won for her a host of friends whose hearts will be saddened by the news tbat she has passed away. The members of her immediate family suiviving her are her parents, Capt. E. W. Manning and Mrs. Margaret F. Man ning; her sisters Mrs. P. H. Gauie and Miss Katie Manning, and two brothers, Messrs. Ed. Manning, jr., and Fletcher Manning. The late Mrs. John H. Har din was a sister of tbe deceased. The sad news was telegraphed Mrs. P. H. Gause, who lives in New York, in time for her to reach tbe city at 5 45 yesterday afternoon. The funeral will take place at 10 o'clock this morning from the First Bap tist church.
