The Board of County Commissioners met ia adjoaraed aessioa yesterday at 180 p. m., with all tha members present, Tbe county treasurer's statement in regard to the school faad 1 the different districts was referred to the auditing committee. Oa motion, tbe tarn .of 15 00 per month was allowed Mrs. Mary Farrow, of Masonboro Sound. It was ordered that a book be provid ed to keep a record of county criminals let out for costs. Ia accordance with a resolution pc sied at tbe April meeting of tbe Board Dr. W. D. McMillan waa elected tuperin tendent of health to serve till May 1st of next year. The Board of Commissioners then for tbe moment gave way to tbe Board of Hospital Managers. Col. F. W. Foster stated that tome repairs were absolutely necessary. Tbe plank walk nnder the grape arbor is very much in need of repairs. Blankets, mattresses and other material for the coming Winter are also needed. It was voted that a sum not to exceed 1165 be expended for tbe pur poses named; three fifths of that amount to be paid by the conntv and two fifths by the city. The Board decided to put down a pump at some convenient place in the neighborhood of the court house for the benefit of tbe public. The main business was to make the appointmenta to scholarships at tne A. and M. College, all tbe nine applicants who stood the examination baviog passed it satisfactorily. A letter was read from the President of the A aod M. College pointing out the rules of procedure nnder such circumstances and following these instructions the Board appointed to the scholarships Messrs. H. E King and S. SebrelN Messrs. Fred Bonitz and John Peschau ere appointed alternates in tbe order named, to receive the appointment in case either of the two young gentlemen elected should not report at the college within five days from date. Death of Mr. Ma'thlaa 8overel. Mr. Matthias Soverel, father-in-law of Mr. C M. Wbitlock. died at Mr. Whit- lock's residence on Wrightsvllle beach yesterday evening at 8 o'clock. He bad reached an advanced age, being at the time of his death 81 years old. He was born in East Orange, New Jersey. At 8 45 o'clock yesterday morning at Grace Methodist chorea, Mr. Henry Elbert Gibbons and Misa Margaret Decatur Wallace, both of this city, were joined together as maa and wife, the im pressive and beautiful service being con ducted by Rev. R A. Willie, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. W. L. Can ninggim, pastor ot Fifth Street Metho dist church. The interior of the church and altar were one mass of palms aad golden-rods; but ao artistically arranged as to form a rare picture of grace and beauty, upon which the early morning light shown with magnificent effect, playing upon the fresh and green palms with a soft glow, while in contrast the golden-rods sent back a brilliant glim mering, which made a most dazzling sight for the eye to behold. When the appointed hour for the ceremony to be performed arrived, the organ, responding to tbe skilled touch oi Mrs.Mattie Chasten, emitted tbe beautiful strains of Mendelsohn's wed ding march, the bridal procession en tered, and the happy couple were united in the holy bonds of matrimony. Luckett is once more in the clutches of the law and is at present in the guard house. For some time past Luckett has been in tbe city represent- inar "Collier s Weekly, and last Friday he was arrested on tbe charge of stealing a watch and chain from a colored ex cursionist, Wm. McQueen, from Marion, S. C. He was tried in the Mayor s Court and bound over to tbe next term of the Criminal Court, but Mr., C. M. Harriss stood as bondsman and Luckett was released from custody, Yesterday afternoon Mr. Harriss, fearing that Luckett was going to run away, surren dered him to tbe authorities at the City Hall aod Luckett was immediately locked up. Foot Ball Allocation. The Youig Men's Christian Associa tion will be well represented on the grid iron during the coming foot ball season. The Board of Audit and Finance met in regular session yesterday afternoon at 8 o'clock. Present, Chairman W. H. Chadbourn aod Messrs. H. C. McQueen, C. W, Yates and John Webber. Bills for current expenses, aggregat ing $4,884 26, were audited and ap proved, after which tbe Board ad journed subject to the call of the chair man. Tha Peanat Crop May Ba short. Indications point now to a short crop of peanuts. The trouble Is due to the excessive drought. A prominent peanut planter was here yesterday and estimates that with the most favorable conditions from now on not more than three- fourths of a full crop can be expected. With unfavorable conditions nntil time of harvesting, the crop will, of coarse, be still more seriously cut off. Bight Hand Crashed. Killie Graham, a colored man aged thirty or thirty-five years, and a car- coupler for the Atlantic Coast Line, had his right hand badly crashed yesterday morning while coupling a car on the passenger yard toVan engine, lie was taken for treatment to the Atlantic Coast Line surgeon, Dr. D. A white man named John Monzingo, oi tnis county, aged 55 years, was run over by the Smiibbeld train near this city at 7.80 a m., sustaining injuries from which he died soon afterwards. He was intox icated and fell asleep alongside the rail road track, with bis head on a cross-tie. No blame is attached to the railroad company. At Fremont, this afternoon, John A.
