To sea a number of your personal friends upon a stage, facing six or eight hundred people, and some ludicrously posing as jockeys driving Imaginary winners on a country race track, others gracefully (in) stalking about with stiffened legs, while still others are seat ing themselves in plain every-day chairs only to rise again with the thought thoroughly instilled into their minds tbat tbe aforetaid chain were red hot stoves, is too absurd for yoa to keep a straight face, and unless you take advan tage of the laughable scene and "roar" you certainly must have eaten sometbicg vcu didn't digett well, or you have beard about tbe intended visit ( f only about lour monthr) of your much be'oved (oy herself) mother-in-law. The L-et were at tbe Opera House last evening, which commenced their week's engagement in this city, and presented an entertain ment of high class, decidedly so. hypno tism. Tbe entertaloment opened with an interesting brief address by Dr. Lee about the hypnotism to be displayed, after which subjects were called for from among the audience, and the call was responded to liberally, about twenty-five gentlemen going upon tbe stage, among whom were Meisrs. W. A. Farms, Henry G.eschen, F. Richter, W. W. Vick. Champ McD. Davis. J. D. Latham, Wo. Donlan, Coreth Angel and as. Co'.chett, and Mr. Jas. H. Cowan of tbe Star. Tbese gentle ra;n were made to do various tricks, not de grading but highly amusing, illustrating the power of hypnotism, and their actions aod facial expression and tbeir well and favorable known acquaint ance soon dispelled any incredibility on the part of the auditor if any was felt. Two of Dr. Lee's assistants were hyp notized and hat pins stuck through their c-ieeks, evidence of which tbe subjects gave not the slightest sign. Previous to this experiment one of tbe assistants was hypsotized. and witb his head rest ing on one chair and bis feet on another, forming a human bench, supported four men whose combined weight wat 722 pounds At 10 o'clock Mr. Herald Gnffia, a member of the company, made bit appearance and wss placed upon a cot, and then hypnotized by Dr. Lee and commanded to stay asleep for forty eight hours. The cot. witb its husaan burden, wat then trantoorted to tbe itore of Mr. 15. f. fenny, on Market ttreet. and placed In a window, where Mr. Gr Si a will tleep until to morrow eveoia?. waea he will be traat- p irted oackto lbs theatre and awakened. Toree gentlemen of this city, Messrs. H. E Lumsdeo, Moses 'Pinny and Leon Mo. t, are watching the s'eeper; and to morrow night w.ll be required to make affidavits thit he bat received no nour ishment of any kind. Mr. Griffii was elghed on ibe stage before going to sleep aod weighed 151 pounds. Dr L:e is assisted ia a s work by bit niece, Mitt Alberta Lee. ST. J AIDES' CrtlMCri.
