Yesterday morning about 10 80 o'clock an out going train on the Wilmington & Newbern railroad ran over a maiden lady Miss Caroline Hum parey.four miles south of Scott's Hill. about eight miles from this city, killing her instantly. It seems that Miss Humphrey was walking on tbe track and the engineer on the train seeing her, blew tbe whistle ol tbe engine, supposing, of course, that sbe would bear the alarm and get out of daager; but Miis Humphrey being deaf did not hear the signal. Tbe engineer seeing that tbe alarm given was not heeded, endeavored to stop the train, bat it was th:n too late, and the train struck the unfortunate lady, killing her instantly. Tne train was immediately brought to a stop and the remains were taken on board and carried to Scott's Hill, where they were turned over to relatives.
