AT THE ACADEMY THIS WEEK. "Human Hearta" Tbaraday Evealox aed May Sarrent la'Bif New York Com edy Sacceas Sale of Seats. At the Academy of Music this week are two ' attractions which promise to be abundantly popular "Human HearU" on Thursday and "That Im prudent Young Couple," with May Sareent in the leading role, Friday night The sale of seats for the first named begins to-morrow morning and for the latUr Thursday morning. It has been said that some drama die in infancy for lack of the elements of success. Nou matter' how elaborately presented they may be, they fail to ap peal to the public and soon go on the shelf. But a melodrama like "Human Hearts" holds iU orlgind charm. It has been seen throughout the -country for the past nine years, yet Uere la no decrease in public interest In this de lightful play. It' contains all the ele ments of success pathos, villany and frrmtAv TtMtldM- iha scenic surround- inge make a picturesque aUge produc tion ana that attracts aueniion. The New York comedy success, in whfh Ma Raj-cAnt will anoear at tbe Academy Friday night; is strongly en dorsed. The New York Sun said of the play: mVm hvfoht w 'Thftt!Tmnradent Young Couple,' acted at the Empire Theatre, on Broadway, last evening. Although Charles Frohman had the piece writUn by Henry Guy Carleton tnr MandA AHimi and John Drew. Mav Sargent has been wisely chosen to head tbe road company in bliss auims role because of her striking resem. hi .n pa trt MIm Adams in every way. Mr. Carleton also wrote 'The Butter flies,' which will be remembered as a flimsy affair, ao far aa dramatic qual lty went, but it provoked laughter by altogether polite and seemly means and it made an agreeaoie entertain ment. Although Mr. Carleton might well have repeated himself he did not. He has improved and Invented differ ent manner and matter, and ao we have this second comedy running at times perhaps to farce, but never at al rude or vulgar." PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. Mra. G. T. Chapel Hill, N. C , Sept. 2L The week just closed marks the most successful one through which the University has ever passed. Last year the total registration of students was 608, while the registration Saturday night was 550. When one recollects that these figures show the number of atudents registered at the close of only the first week of the Fall term, he may readily see that it is only a matter of a short time before the number of atu dents will greatly exceed last year's attendance. With the new men who will come in durine the Fall term, and those who register at tbe beginning of the Spring term, it is confidently be lieved that the total number of atu dents will reach 650 before the end of the present scholastic year. An unfavorable report was circula ted last week as regards the attendance in the law school. The number of students in that department Is now greater than ever before, and pros pects point to one of tbe most suecesa fnl year's in its history. It may Inter est some to know that out of the sixty men sent before Ue State Board in Ue the past year, .fifty-nine have passed the examination successfully.
