The secretive policy of the Standard Oil Ootbpsny concerning the acoideDt waa denounced in uncertain terms by many, while others lookea upon the matter as greatly exaggerated. The condition grew very little lesa alormine during the day, and in one or two instances fiat pumps were used to rid the docks and wharves of the highly combustible 1 quid. Eighteen men employed by the city, upon the order of Mayor Pro Tem. People continued to skim the water for the pe'roleum product yesterday and large quantities of it were saved tn buckets and barrels.
