Raleigh News and Observer: State Veterarian Tait Butler, is preparing a bulletin on "North Carolina Hogs." There are IS species or breeds in the United tSates and 10;of these are to be found in North Carolina.' More time and attention are given to breeding swine in the Eastern part of the State, and especially in the peanut sec tion, than in the Western part. But only at extremely few places, is the supply pf meat greater, than can be consumed on the farm where it is grown. The object of the bulletin will be to encourage the , raising of hogs. . Mr. J- F, Blunt, a lumber man, met with a ; peculiar accident at a lumber camp at .. Parksville station, on - the Suffolk and aGrolina railroad. A large log which was being lifted with ropes turned and Mr. Blount threw his guide rope around a stump. The rope slip ped off, flying directly at Mr. Blount, lassoed him, jerked his 5 feet into the air by the neck, and threw him back to the ground.- He was picked up unconscious and carried into a house. Batchelor, a Wilson man, is lying in the sanitarium with a bul let wound in his left hip inflicted by another white man named Van Sharp, of Wilbanks. v The trouble occurred about three miles Irom saiem at xae saw mill Mr. Batchelor is locating on the Neuse river, where the Southern Railroad crosses. Sharp has been cooking for his force, and Saturday af ternoon Mr. Batchelor, after paying him, informed him that ne naa noi been doing his duty of late and there fore his services were no -longer re quired. ' Sharp, so Mr. Batchelor says, at once disputed his word and was ask ed if he intended to call him a liar. The words were repeated and ; Mr; Batchelor struck at Sharp who pulled ported as having, recovered reason, and is to be tried for his. life.- . Charle Setzer, charged witharson in Catawba, but freed from trial because sane now, and has 'been taken back to Newton from the department of the criminal insane here, and is to be tried inJuly, being now out under, a bond for $5,- 000. The case Is a curious one. About IS months ago a store and dwelling house five miles east of Newton were burned. : At first' there was no clue to the- person who did the burning, but a month or so later Charles Setzer be came insane 'and while in this condi tion confessed to the crime.
