The French delegates, on the -other hand, maintain that France cannot be disinterested. ; They affirm that having followed an active policy in Morocco for elghtryearB and having obtained numerous advantages, France should not now be asked to take the same position as all the rest of the world. ' The real struggle,' however, is over the political future of Morocco, France would rather withdraw from the con ference than-tie up the political destfc nv of Morocco by international " con trol. . Revolver Fiaht in New York - " Bloody Consequences. By Wire to Tho Morning Star. New York. Jan. 24. A score of Chinamen engaged In a. revolver oat- tlejn the streets of 'T3hinatown" to day, which resulted in the" death of two Chinamen; Ching Yeng and Lee Soon, the mortal wounding of a third and the serious Injury of a fourth com batant. The battle was between mem bers of the two rival Chinese societies, the Hip "Sings, and the On Leongs. Chi natown was full of visitors , at , ti1' time who were witnessing the celebra tion of the Chinese new year. Extra details of police were on duty in the narrow, crooked streets .- which com nose Chinatown. The fight began in Pell street under cover of the racket of fire crackers set oft intentionally by members of the rival societies.. The police rushed among the fighting Chi namen, snatching still smoking revol vers from their hands or knocking them down. When the battle ended four Chinamen lay dead or uncon scious in the street, eight ervolvers were scattered, about and seven Chinamen- were prisoners in the arms of the police. . - CAPITAL ' SURPLUS ..................
