THE MORNING STAB, WILMINGTON, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1906. PAGE SIX. I IIRITS l y TURPENTINE 5 your wife Charlotte has on hand an enthu siastic movement to build an audi torium to cost $50,000 and seat 5,000 people. . - Gibson has on foot a cotton mill project, -electric power to operate which will be secured from Bluitt Paills, on the Pee Dee river. (Lumberton Robesonian.) A young son of Mr. Owen Davis who lives on Lumberton R. F. D No. 3, was accidentally shot with an "un loaded" pistol Thursday, the ball en tering the right lung. The young man's condition is very faforab-le. - (Fayetteville Observer.) Dunn Bros., of Raleigh, have rent ed a part of the Williams buiulding and will soon establish a big wnoie ooip-nftinerv house here. We know of no better place in the South for whole sale houses, and we believe there is no doubt as to the success of Dunn Brothers. The annual convention of the Holiriess church of Eastern North Car olina met yesterday with the Taber nacle church, Lumberton, and will continue until Sunday night. Seventy five preachers and delegates are ex pected. Business meetings daily 9 to 11 and 2.30 to 5 P. M- Preaching at 11 A. M. and 7 P. M. Major J- G. Young of Greensboro, has purchased from a citizen of Stokes county a pure white squirrel. This is said to be the fifth white squirrel captured in Stokes county and in gen eral appearance is very much like a white rat, having pink eyes similar to the white rat, but the tail, claws and teeth would convince anyone that the creature is not of the rat family. (Charlotte Observer) The Southern Bell Telephone Co., will shortly begin work in extensive improvements in Charlotte. The act ual work will begin in a very few days. IJ is estimated that $34,000 will be expended in improving local systems. The underground cables will be ex tended and the aerial connections im proved. When the work is finished, the local system will be the equal to any in the Soufh. (Charlotte News.) A bij shake-up in the heads of the 'Seaboard Air Line Railway is pre dicted for the first of the year, ac cording to rumors in railroad circles. While no difinite reports have gained circulation, and no names have been mentioned, it is said that a number of high officials are included in the list of changes. It is said that the chang es will be made on account of the new policy of the Seaboarb Air Line which was evidenced in the appointment of W. A. Garret as vice president and general manager. This official was formally connected with the Queen & Crescent company and his office is a new place with the railroad. The changes which has been rumored, it is said, will take effece the latter part of December or the first of the year. (Charlotte Observer) Sheriff Wallace and 'Squire J- P. Hunter, of this county, saw the dead body of the Asheville negro despera do, who is still unknown to the offi cers. The former is not positive that the corpse is not that of Will Harris, while 'Squire Hunter is positively cer tain that it is not that of his old field hand. In talking with an Observer man, Sheriff Wallace said that the ear marks of the Mecklenburg outlaw I are there, but the face it so disfigured that it would be difficulto identify the body. 'Squire Hunter said that the mouth was too large; the color, the size, height and general appearance of the dead man are not unlike those of Harris- The identity of the negro may remain a mystery. The average darkey would not tell who he was, if L .1 - ne Knew, ror fear that something mignt befall him. The neero is suner stitious and his dread of returning spirits outweighs his respect for or fear of law. (Charlotte Observer) "Captain Mark W.
