About 100 delegates are ki attendance. Mr. C. C. Moore, of Mecklenburg, president cf.the. North Carolina divis ion' of the Southern Cotton Associa tion, will address the farmers of Cum berland next Tuesday in Fayetteville. Mr. W. J. Galloway's barn, near Hamlet, was hurned on Sunday night. All the stock was saved, but a lot of . feed stuff was lost.A The origin of the fire is unktonwn. Fayetteville, Nov. 21 The Cum berland Savings and Trust Company began business to-day in the build ing recently occupied by the North Carolina Baptist, corner of Gillespie street, and Market Square. Its offi cers are: President, Frank H. Sted man, of Wilmington, who will make his home here iat the expiration of Wis term as sheriff; vice presidents, J. F. Post and Dr. J. V. The action of State Superintendent Joyner in de clining the presidency of the State Normal Industrial School created con siderable surprise here. It had been bstlieved 'that he woi)!d accept the place and resign his present office, but wtien the matter came up for consid eration, he declined to accept the place and will continue where he tis. 1 The beard of directors will employ an other teacher to take part of the work now being done by Prof. Foust, dean of the college, who will be con tinued as acting president until next commencement. On account of the repairs be ing made to the jail, the city's lockup had been used as a prison for the county as well as a city jail. Three colored prisoners were in the cala boose. They were all locked in one cell, the adjoining cell being empty, and a plank partition between. At the coming term of the Federal Court the case against the two deputy revenue col lectors charged with killing a moon shiner (!n D'iplin county, will be tried. The officers say that they have an en tirely complete defense, this being self-defense. The shooting was done by Deputy Downing as the man he shot was in the act of raising his gun to fire upon him..
