The cotton, "mar- ket contlnuea quiei aurxng waars early session and showed little feature until near the close, when. there .was quite an active demand-and a consid erable advance during the last prices with a gain of 11 to 15 points. .The sales of the day were estimated at 75,0&jte!es. The opening was steady at uncnanged prices to an advance of two points, which was about vas due on the different cables. The weather map showed frost in parts of the east ern belt, but it seemed the impression that no damage was being done, and warmer weather 'was predicted during the early session in an effort,-presumably to break -the market, -but the cotton was well taken iand the " market began to steady up toward midday on scattered covering,; which may"!" have been promoted by lighter, receipts and reports that government ' experiments with, seed showed that 'the, seed was less fertile than that of the 'previous season. Trading continued quiet ' at, prices a few points over the closing figures of yestefday, until near the close, when demand became quite rc tive and prices showed a net , gain of about 11 to 16 points. The close was at practically the " best point of the session. The buying on the advance was rumored to be largely for a prom inent St. Louis house. Southern spot t markets were unchanged to l-8c low er. Receipts at tne ports roaay,-io,- 94 bales, against 27,210 last week. and 18.970 last year.
