C, June 9 There was an agreeable surprise on every hand here this morning as the news spread around that Mr. W. S. Wilson, corpor ation clerk to the Secretary of State, and Mrs, Mary Strong Calvert, one of Raleigh's most cultured and highly esteemed ladjes were married. The -marriage , was a complete sur prise to even thcir most intimate friends and took place last night at the home of Mrs. Calvert's sister, Mrs. Carrie Strong, Dr. I. McK. Pittinger, rector of The Church of ths Good Shepherd . officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were at home to their friends today apd there was a constant stream of callers extending hearty good wishes. There were conferences among the wnite carpenters and prstty soon these all left their work and began packing t-hoii- tortis The foreman was inform- A that thev would not work with the negroes'. The up town office was com municated with. Manager Gerken and others came on the scene. The negroes were paid off and told to go and the trouble was all over. Colonel Fred A. Col. Olds is . for the Raleigh Cham ber working up the interest among tne officers of the counties in North Caro- ina that would be 'traversed if the Capitals route" is ultimately success- ul. He says the responses are es pecially encouraging, it being estab lished that there will be very little expense of the road construction to eom.p out of the general fund since, the counties will set about putting the roads in order for themselves. "The State Club' is now fully or ganized and established in its club house on the west side of Capital Squama, it being a club of stateofficials and their friends. The Woman's Club building has been admirably furnished with mission furniture for the pur poses of "The, State Club," the ladies retaining for their own uses only tne assembly room of the building., Dr. B. F. Dixon, who organized the club, is president and C. W. Gold secre tary and treasurer. The membership is Ignited to fifty and has for an ex ecutive committee Judge H. G.
