T> iht of i'\n)ihvrlnnt1 County:
tT is rumoreil in some sections of the Count}’ that
the undersigned is running as a Candidate for the
otiice of Sherifi', not with any hope of desire of being
elected Sheritf himself but for the purpose of defeating
the election of Hector McNeill, Es'i., by taking from
him the votes that might otherwise be given to him;
and many of those who have i>roh\^fed to be my friemii
when talking to me, have industriously circulated re
ports about me calculated to injure me before the peo
ple, while their only object is to defeat my election.
I take this oppi'rtunity of saving that my only object
in becoming a candidate for the oflice of Sheriff is to
get an ofTice that will.enable me to snpp-^rt my wife
and children. I am the nominee of ■ party, but stand
before the people of the County asking their suffrages
freemen; with no pledges to act in any way but as
a faithful discharge of my duties, (if 1 should be so
fortunate as to be elected), will require at the hands
of everj’ faithful and efficient othcer. 1 have made no
b'lrgaiii with .Mr. Roberts or with Mr. .McNeill either
directly or indirectly to aid either of them. .My object
,/ M/' : ■ ; b- Ui. And 1 take this opportunity of
saying that if Elected, I will serve the public faithful-

Every Can warranted to seal.
We have received, through the hands of a friend, as
a present, a ran of (omatoef, which he tells us was pre
pared last sumtner according to the plan recommended
liy Dr. Arthur. The Can is one of his patent, and,
having opened it without difficulty by pursuing his in
structions, we found this delightful vegetable posses
sing all the rich flavor which belongs to it when first
^ taken from its vines. It is the first of Arthur's patent
Cans for preserving fruit and vegetables that we have
seen. Nothing can be more simple: and. judging from
the specinieu of its efficacy in accomplishing all that
it promises, we do not hesitate to recommend the in
vention to housekeepers.—Xational InteUigencer of Fri-
■ dat/, \^jth .fiinr, 1855.
Every variety of summer fruit was put tip in these
cans in our family last season, .and we now have .i/rrt/c-
! herriex, ni.ijiherrics, plunut, cherrim, blackberries, peaches,
tomatoes, .jv . as fresh as when sealed up. These are,
indeed, luxuries, .and may be secured by every one at
ia small cost.—.{rthur's Home Magazijie.
We have in our family a variety of fruit preserved in
these cans, which we used through the winter with
great satisfaction, and which our visiting friends pro
nounce as fresh as if they had just been gathered.-—
