fBlinS Institution has been in operation about two
1 years and a half It is ideasnntly .situated on an
eminence about one-half of a mile sjuthwest ol the
town of Wadesborough, commati ling an extensive view
of the surrounding country. There is a dwelling house
connected with the institute and occupied by Rev.
Elijah J. Morrison, one of the Teachers, who is pre
pared to take eight or ten boarders, to whose comfort,
instruction and moral training every necessary atten
tion will be bestowed. The Institution is now under
charge of Prof. SIL.AS C. L1NDSLE\ and Rev. E. J.
.MORRISON, gentlemen who have considerable experi
ence in teaching. Mr Morrison, who has charge of
the English Department, is a graduate of our Univer
sity, and haa taught a classical school for many year».
Mr. Lindsley, who has charge of the Latin and Greek

ri'^HE undersigned proposes publishing in the City of
I New York, a Wwetly Paper, to be called THE
SOUTHERN HERALD.
The objects and purposes of this paper will always
be, to speak for the South in every emergency, and to
protect at all times, the interests of the Southcin Mer-
cantilf Covtmunity against impositions and abuse.
It shall be the continued effort of the Editor to ferret i
out all Aholition Ilousen in New York, and to apprize,
as speedily as possible, our Southern Merchants of I
their existence.
In our opinion, at this crisis of our political history,
it behooves every Southern m.an to let his influence be
felt as far as it can, in suppressing the onward pro
gress of Aholition Merchnfits iu this city, the prosperity
of whom is owing, in a great measure, to the patron
age from the South.
The time has come when it is right and proper, that
we should have “a local habitation and a name” here,
in this groat city. We have an influence and it shall
be feltl
There are large houses in New York that do an enor
mous Southern Trade, who are notorious among us, as
Abolitionists o f the deejicxt dye.
Can it be possible that our Southern merchants are
aware of this? No! It cannot be! Our people of the
Sonth are too true to their principles and interest, to
knowingly give aid and comfort to the encmj’.
They cannot be willing to build up those who daily
hurl anathemas against them, and would at any time
crosh them lo the earth if iu their power to do s(>.
We stand iiere as a beacon light for the South, and
nothing that may conio to our knowledge, which may
be of the slightest interest to the Southern communiti/,
in the remotest degree, shall be withheld by us, let
the consequences be what they may.
We earnestly appeal to the South for a speedy en
dorsement of the movement. We shall expect your
assistance and hearty co-operation, which will enable
us at an Ciirly day to give you a Paper worth your
money and your reading.
We entertain no fears as to thesuccessof this paper,
US we appeal only to those for help, who have always
been found ready and willing to give aid and assistance
to any good and noble undertaking.
