Smd boy was alu nt twenty-oi'.e years of age when ho
lelt, and weighed about 140 or 150 poumis. lie is
dark complected, rouml faced, full jawed, slightly bow-
leggvd, round shonldereil, leans forward when he
walks, and is very intelligent. He has a scar on the
inside of one thigh, caused by a wound receiveil in a
fall from a tree. 1 have reason to believe that he has
been in the counties of .Iidinstou, Harnett, Cumber
land and Bladen, and in the towns of Averasboro’ and
Fayetteville, wheri* he jiassed for a free man, under
the assumed names of Joseph .Jacobs, John 0. Wil
liams anJ William Caldwell, and at times followed the
occupation of a ditcher. I have also been informed
that he left Raleigh in a buggy with an Irishman,
probably under a promise of being taken to a free
State
I will pay a reward of i^lOO fur his apprehension
and ilelivery to me, or f)r his confinement in any jail
so that 1 get him, if taken within this State; •'j'200 if
taken out of the State: and also :flOO for proof suf
ficient to convict any white person with having har-
bured him, whether in or out of this State-

^B^HIS School, which hitherto has enjoyed a high
degree of prosperity under the conduct of J. H.
Hoinor. A. il., by \fhom it was oriKinally established,
will he re-oponed orf the 15th of July, and arranged to
I’rCpare hoys for advanced classes in the University.
For this purpose. Prof. G. Brown, whose reputa
tion is well known as a Teacher of the Ancient Classics
during the last thirteen years at Chapel Hill, will be
associated with the present Principal, and Rev. T. J.
Horner will continue to be an assistant Instructor.
Tiio School, as thus organized, is ilesigned to be
permanent and of the highest grade. .Vs it is divided
into a few classes pursuing a regular course of studies,
considerable time will lie devoted to examination and
lecture upon the subject of every lesson by each in
structor in his own department.
Important advantages have been secured by the es-
tablisliment of a Literary Society, with its library, and
an efficient system of discipline, in which especial at
tention is given to the habits and deportment of the
young men, when not eng.aged in the immediate duties
of the School.
Its location is very eligible; the climate of Oxford is
excellent, and the com:nod! 'US building lately erected,
stands on an eminence in a beautiful grove, beyond the
corporate limits of tiie town ami near the residence of
the Principal and other private families, who will ac
commodate the Students with board.
Two terms of twenty weeks each, coinciding with
those of the Un’versity, compose the scholastic j’ear,
and the price of board and tuition is ninety dollars a
term.
-Applications should be made as early as practicable,
accompanied in every instance with a statement of the
age and proficiency of the applicant.

RAN.\W'AY frow the subscriber, in Pittsborough,
Chatham county, N. C., on the 8th inst., a negro
boy named Jl-M, about 18 years of age, of dark brown
color, about five feet high, heavy built, and weighs
from 140 to 150 lbs. He is smart aud quick spoken,
and rocks when he walks. The only notable mark re
collected is a scar on the middle of the forehead, near
where the hair joins. He had on, when last seen, a
brown Tweeds coat, with flaps on the pocket. \ re
ward of Fifty Dollars will be paid for him, if taken
out of the county of Chatham, or Twenty-five Dollars
if taken in it.
