VALUABLE FAR>IL\G LAND FOR SALE. The Plantation on Cape Fear River, known as the Col. Aslie place. These lands are without doubt the most valuable on the Cape Fear. They are located nine miles above Fayetteville, on the East side of the Cape Fear, contain 702 acres, most admirably adapted to the cultivation of cotton, corn, oats and wheal. Men of acknowledged judgment say it will average 80 to 50 bushels of corn to the acre: about 200 acres are cleared, and it will produce 100 bales of cotton, besides provi sions for the force. The uncleared land cannot be surpassed any where, :ind will yield 50 to PO bushels of corn to the acre, and IS much Cotton as any in this country: situated within 9 miles of the best market iu the State, with Steamboat navigation to either Fayetteville or Wilmington: with richness of soil seldom equalled—never surpassed, makes the most VALUABLE and DESIRABLE FARM in the State. In connection with the above, I offer 208 acres of ' L.-VND on West side of Cape Fear, known as the “White ' : Lands,” just opposite th» above. I will sell the above ' lands on the most favorable terms: a bargain may be j I had. If not disposed of sooner, they will be sold at ; , AUCTION, at the .Market Hou>e in Fayetteville, on j j May 8th, 1860. .-\s to quality of Land, I refer to Col. ■ ! Waddill, Messrs. John Waddill, A. March 24, 1860. 3tf [ Lost Treasure.—The oft-repeated inquiry as to ! “what becomes of all the pins,” has puzzled the curious far less than that more serious question I as to what becomea of all the silver sen; to India. ; From the earliest history of the movements of the j precious metals, down to the present time, the i stream has flowed in that one direction, with only ' occasional return currents, not suflBcient to pay I even an interest on the vast capital thus sent to j that vast reservoir. In the days of the Roman Empire, fifteen hundred years ago, this current ! attracted serious attention, and more than once } led to important debate in the Senate concerning ' this “giving away of wealth of the State to foreign : and hostile nations.” The Elder Pliny computes ' the annual loss of silver at four million dollars, ^ [Hist. Xatur. 12,'18,] a large sumjfor that period; a portion of which went to Arabia, but most oif i it was absorbed by India in return for silks, car pets, shawls, precious stones, and in a variety of arotuatics.
