TheTlichmond Examiner of tho 3d inst. takes the following unhappy view of their dosorted cause aftfcr tho great battle : " From accounts received from our lines yosterday, we learn tlat within the past two or threo days there has been a great deal of strug gling on tho part of pur troops. We do not seek to magnify thi3 source of demoralization, but when we uro told that several whole dj visions have been reduced to almost half their number, and that the larger portion of these re ductions is attributed to straggling, it is time to exclaim against it in tones pt alarm and anxiety. Some days ago it was suggested by us that firing pai'ties should be imme diately organized to scour the field of battle antf shoot down, without cere mony, men who left the ranks to skulk for places of safety, and hide them selves from the presence of the enemy. "Wo would repeat the suggestion with renewed and anxious emphasis. It appears tr,af ai pvory 6tage 01 ms dex terous retreat, the enemy has shown new accessions of spirit. lie has been forced into positions where ho is con strained to fight with tho dangerous fury of dosperation, and where, to com-J plete his defeat, tho endeavours of our whole army may yet be necessary. It is no time yet for relaxation. It will )je a crying shame if the energy and spirit of our army are to be enfeebled, their numbers reduced, aud tho for tunes of victory, which we have pur sued for six days, aro, in any degree, to be risked or impaired by a moment's further toleration of the vUo practice of straggling." Tu,.,mtl,P!ani, q nnHilield almost every evening. It has we are much pleased to witness the consideration ofthedifferentcemmand ing ofiicors of regiments on this post. Every regiment is required to go through a battalion drill daily. The commanding officer of tho 2!d Mass. Rcgt., having the welfare of his iun at hoart, has his regimental drill at H P. M., o as to give his command the cool of the day to work in, and immediately thereafter, tho dress pa rade. This is right and commendable, and shows prudent forethought, and we believe meets with general approv al.
