Court being in session at Suf folk last week, he was indicted by the Grand Jury, and at once arraigned for trial. On Wednesday last, he was con victed of murder, in the first degree and sentenced to be executed on the 11th of July. lie has made a full confession of his guilt. If his execution should take place on the day appointed, and of this there is scarcely a doubt, we will have one instance on record where a murderer was' tried, convicted and hanged within six weeks after the com mission of the offense. New York might here learn a les son from Virginia, and in the case of Frank Walworth teach youthful parri cides in that State, that such unnatural crimes are top heinous to admit of the laws' delay, but require prompt and summary justice. THANKS. We are under obligations to our friend Capt. James Barron Hope, Editor of the Norfolk Virginian, for a copy of Cotton's Life of Nathaniel Macon Capt. Hope cherishes a high regard lor the services and character oAh'e distinguished North Carolinian whose virtues are commemorated in the little volume before us. We are pleaded to see the interest evinced by Capt. Hope in behalt of North Carolina. We learn that he has in his possession some valuable data res i j laung to the colonial historv of thi State, which he will probably have nub- usuea in some lorm at an early day.
