A cor respondent, writing u from Tarboro, says : 'Dr. A. H. McNair. of this place, day before yesterday was gratified to learn that a quantity of silver-ware, which had been in the family a num ber of years, buried by him during the war about a mile from the town of Louisburg. where he wan "refugee ing" at the time, had been found and awaited his order. Soon after the Yankees had left for more genial parts, search was? made, but aorae one previously dund out the place and appropriated the hidden treasure, the Doctor thought. There were 27 pieces, and as all were marked with the initials 'A. H. M." it is presumed the thief feared to dispose of them; at anv rate, they were concealed in the loft of an old tenement uouse, muo.ii being overhauled a few days ago for roi.tirs. the ware was discovered by an acquaintance of Dr. McNair's, who notified bun immeuiaieiy u. iu. . The value of the silver is over 5o00. A Curious Incident of Bar rarity. Value of Improved Stoci A writer in the New York TimU puts tbe question plainly in saying that if a farmer keeps thirty cows that av era"e 30 a year each for milk, and he can increase the average to S40ft year by the u-e of a thoroughbred bull, of a good milking breed, he can afford to pay a good sum for a bull. And yet better results than this have been accomplished. If he is raising cattle for beef, and he can add 200 pounds to the carcass of each, bv the time it is ready for the sham b"es, by the use of a short-horned bull, it will certainly be profitable for him to pay a gooa price iui our a bull. And yet this is the average result of using thoroughbred bull on the native cows of our country, as estimated by all the be siock o recit ers. And this two hundred pounds is clear gain, for it is prouueeu wirn lio greater consumption of food. It the uso of a thoroughbred ram on a flock of common ewes will increase the weight of fleece one pound, on the average, certainly more than "five in a hundred oowld make it pay " whether more than one in five 'would or not, is another ques tion. And so with hogs. The aif ference between the common "woods" breed of the past, and the improved breeds of to-day is beyond comparison. The railroiid cars now convey pass sengcrs within seven miles of Hot ur4...r.fra Ark., and it is expected that bv the 1st January the trains will run, to the not opnugs .ucuisoi.. v-r.rifWArnor Foote. of Tennessee; In a Irtnrr letter to the Knoxyille (Tenn.)
