A ;ttd Mine in Chatham county found A Seventy-five -- Dollar; Chunk A Box of the Y ellow Beanry Sent to the State Cieologist. We were shown on yesterday by a gentleman in this city some very valuable specimens of gold ore taken fjroua a nerewtly opened in Chat ham county, which promises to be come oneof the richest mines in the State. One piece of the precious metal shown to ns is valued at seventy-live dollirs, and we are assured that there is plenty 'more just like it. A box of the ore has been sent to our oi thy State Geologist, and is ou fx hibition in the State Museum. The mine is on a tract of land? leased by Messrs. J. J. Jackson and H. A. Lou d.u, Jr., and Hon. John Manning, of Pittsboro. N. C, and ha been suf ficiently opened by these gentlemen to tesi its extent and great value. We learn that they, purpose uniting with certain Northern capitalists and forming a joint stock: company, so as tu erect the proper machinery and go to work on an extensive scale. A. good deal of work baa already been' done, three shafts having been sunk, to a depth of fifty feet, and tunnels connecting them about three hundred feet in length, and throughout the tntire dUtance was found a vein of g od ore varying in thickness from 6 inches to 4 feet. The ore is Of rich quality, and is pronounced by those who have seen it to be equal to the ore of the famous Gold Jlill mine, and is known to miners us "the brown ore." About tweive hundred dollars of gold has been taken out of the mine already, and if the work is prosecuted, no doubt but that many thousands will be added to our cur rency. He was the republican member from Lan caster county. Boston Correspondence Springfield Repub lic i.D, John Q,. Adams ou Gift-Taking. The story of St. Louis of France is beautiful and suggestive. Leaving ou a crusade, he charged the Queen Regent, who remained behind, "not to accept presents for herself or her children." . Such was one of the in junctions by which this monarch, when far away on a perilous expedi tion,, impressed, himself upon his country. My own strong convictions on this Presidential pretension were aroused iu a conversation which it w-s my privilege to enjoy with John Qtiincy Adams, as he sat in his sick room at his son's bouse iu Boston, a short time, before he'feli at his post ofdut3' in tbe House of Representa tives. In a voice trembling with age and with emotion he said that no public man could take gifts without peril, and that he himsetf, through his long career as Minister abroad, Secretary of State, President and Represeuiative, always refused gifts unless it were a book or some small article, in its natura a token and not a reward or bribe. l'x-Go. Warmouth as Pinchbach'a Successor. A report is current in Washington that Kellogg has appointed ex -Governor VV annua th to the vacancy which exists in the Senate by the re jection of Pinchback. Warmouth has gained greatly in popularity in New Orleans during ihe past few mouths,- and if he has been appointed it is the hope of a unity of the liberal element in the Republican party with the regular organization in order to carry the State at the next election. The question has been raised whether Kellogg has the right to fill an original vacancy in the Senatorial delegation from Louisi ana. A similar vacancy occured in the XXXIIId Cuugress, and the committee to whom the subject was referred made two reports.' The ma jority held that G, T. Phelps; who had been appointed, was not entitled to the scat, and the minority that he was not. The Senate adopted tbe minority report, aud the precedent governs in the present case. War mouth, if appointed, would not be admitted. NEW ADVEnTlSfcMlSNiTS. F O R 8 E A Fine AI.DERNY BULL Full Blood f)uryea.s old Address- " B..X, il'J, Raleleh, N, C. mar 15-d lw.
