I west from Taylorsville' to Leooirin Caldwell county where I spoke to a large and attentive audience. A half drunken radical took his stand nor mo and began talking and i ursng, about tile time I said fellow citi .cim. A magistrate spoke to one of liia solier friends to quiet hiuv But he would no wore be quieted than lUeliei would Is comforted. Finally the Sheriff was called tir. This u a the only disturlmace I have witnessed. Ivlward Jones, Jr., former ineinber, U the mndidatein the Commons for Odd well county. There was an iudcpeiidi nt cun ili.hite iigniit Mr. Jones, but Ilia friends inloraied mc tlmt he would withdraw. Mr. Jones is deservedly popular in his count v aud among, the young men who must and will guide the ship of State snejil in the troubles that lie before htr. In the Senate we fuund threo candi ,1 jt. . Captain Tate, an independent UssV. necs of a eonvetition. Gu lger and Klein ining were sure of their elections. Mr. I'h inuiiiig is the former Senator of the ilistrict. and is wll and farorablj known His taleut and popularity it was thought would secure his election.. Mr. Uudgcr m a new man in politics, a man of talents, ami a most effective stump speaker. 1 heard the opinion expressed by competent judges Unit he made belter and more pop- 'ilar siioechea than any man of his dis trict. From Caldwell, I crossed the Blue Kidge with Captain Brice, of Charlotte, and my old friend, Joseph Norwood, and two of his sons, and Mr. Boon's, in Wa tauga, was my next appointment for a speec h. Here I found assembled 1 large mini er of good looking mountaineers, most of them riding mares with colts fol lowing, or riding stallions. In this coun tj were two conservative candidates, loo a ami tkhell, no convention having I wen cM lo make nominations. I have never Ik'cii among a more hospitable people or a Iieople more intent upon carrying the election. Dr. Council, in this Senatorial District' is an indi'iendant candidate against Capt. Todd, who is the candidate of a conven tion. ' From Boon's I went lo Sparta, . in Ashe county, where I addressed a large audi euce. The iieople of Ashe and Alleghany are much alike in their ways, manners habiU and politics. Moat of the taxpay ers belong to the conservative party. Capt. J. M. Bryan is the conservative can didate for the House, withwut opposition. He is a plain fanner, whose sterling integ rity and good common sense recommend him to hit neighbors as a suitable person to represent them in the legislature. From Alleghany I re crossed the Blue Kidge into Wilkes, where I spoke at Hick's, Major Foote and the couuty can Jidates being present. 1 Dr. York, former member, and Dr. Hal ket are the conservative candidates for the Commons, with the ccrtaiuty of being elected. The last named candidates are physi liaru of long standing and extensive practice and are justly popular men. I eallei Foote to task for the calumnies arid falsehoods he had been uttering upon me, but he denied and confessed uot. I called on him to mention wherein I had misrepresented him, and offered to make amends by proper apology if he would show 1 was misUkcn. Foote is one of the most anscrupuloua radicala that ever stood upon a stump. Tirn Hortoo and Thomas Nicholson will have an easy time in beat ing him. Got. Caldwell will be at Trap Mil on day. Where there is to be a radical birbecue. Ob Friday the conservatives bare a g'and mats meeting when Senator Fenton and other distinguished speakers will be present Robbina beats Leach as a canvasser, and that is saying a great deal, which Leach will not regard as in disparagement of him, but a compliment to his kinsman. Hobbim speaks in day time and then at night in some church or school bouse. It is thought by our fnends that Rob bins will beat Furtifaea lour or ( perbsps Ave thousand votes.
