fear this is jrreatly incn aw'd amon the (slura

' In the evening of my first Sunday in London,
I went to hear St. Bishop of Oxford preach a

I went to attend a Conference of hie Clergy ia
the city of Oxford, btrt I was detained so long
in London, thatthe Conferenc hadcloaed
when I reached the College where it was held,
I visited, however, the . Aahmoleaa Museoni,
where I saw many Roman find early English
Antiquities, such as the finger-ring of Alfred
the Oreat and the watch of (jtieen. Elizabeth,
and also passed some boors in the Bodleian M
brary, which, however, tole examined to much
profit would reqnire weeks, or months. As it
was vacation, I staved but a short time in Ox
ford, hoping to visit it again during Term.
On my second Sundav in London i wentdown
with the Bishop of Oxford to attend service at
Hornswv, one of the villages niwr London which
the Metropolis is opening its monstrou jaws to
swallow up, and which iu a few years it will
have made a mrt of itself. At present it is a
beautiful rural it, and the chnrch and recuiry,
and I may a Id, the clergyman, arc admirable
representatives, in their respective department,
ot the Church of England. The sermon, wh ich
was delivered by the Bishop of Oxford, was, as
might lie expected, very able and interesting.
At Bij;1it T wetit'tirth( srtwlal scrvlee at West

Church, which was crowded to it utmost ca

, ever attended. The Church i the meet beabti-'

was, s I have sa'nl, crowded with an intelligent
and apparently devout conp-regatjon. The mu
