The concert for tbe benefit of the Ox ford Orphan Asylum, given at Tucker Ilall, on Friday night, by the Raleigh Sextette and Quartette Clubs, assisted by Mrs. and Miss Ada Slater and Prt. Grots, of Hillsboro, and iucludirg Dr. L. Voc Meyerhofi, of the Raleigh Female Semi nary, and Prof. Schneider, of St. Mary's, was a decided success, txcrpt in a pecu niary point of view. The ;atherwas most uulavorable, but though small, the audience was quite select, some oue hun dred and fifty persons being prest-ut, about ono-fourth of whom were Imlioa. Tbe Sextette Club consisted of Prof Schneider, piano ; Dr. L. You Meyerhoff, first violin (in the absence of Lieut. How ell ;) V. C. Royaler, second violin and comet; August Docpp, second violin ; Wm. Simpson, flute; Walton Busbee, double base. The piano usel on tbe occasion, furn ished by Dr. August Docpp, was from the celebrated manufactory ot Ihne & Son, New York, and was much admired for its power, brilliancy and sweet nea ol tone. Tho organ was from the In stitution fir tbe Deaf and Dumb and the B'inrl. The Sextette Club p'syid the overture to "Tancrede" b Rostini ; Jlie gallope "Troubadour;" tbe overture to "Norma" by Bellini, and the H'altx ' On the Banks in trie uiue i;dcu'e. ltiecallope was deservedly applauded and an encore call ed for but the club substituted aoUu.r composition. The Sextette Club also played in the quintette ''Last Iu.se of Summer,'' and in tho "Anvil Chorus" from "II Trot store." thu liitter eutbusi axticeily encored. The Sextette Club ea- tabliabed tbelr lej uUtion in this coucert and tbey ha 1 tho pleasure of di covering that their taleols are appreciated and that hey are now Raleigh favorite. Mrs. and Mire Ada Slater wero weil re ceived and acquitted themselves very handsomely. - Their duct, "Cheerful ness," met with a herty encore, as did also tho soprano solo of Mist Slater, Kellog Wain" Thi. waa the young lady's dibut, and to ray tbe least of her she went through the ordeal creditably Dr. L. His power over me lueuuuiem m isgeiueu His "American MeJ ey," which included indeed, the air. of all nations, exhibited much of this power and was rewarded by aa encore, enabling tbe perlormer to In Uodoce so arrangement of his own as substitute. Th. grand duo for ths piaao and organ by Schumann, played by Dr. Von Mryerhuff and Prof. Grotx, was splendid petlormance, marred, however, by aa indifferent organ.
