' . Sec. 2. And Be it further enacted, That a subscription be opened in the city of Washington, under the direc tion of John Davidson, Sajlerlec Clark, Alexander Kerr, R. C. Weight man, ; Benjamin G. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the UnU ted States of America, in Congress as hled That the powers ?and duties of the surveyor for the lands in the i . urn - northern part or tne late Mississippi territory, shall extend to the whole of the Alabama territoryf and tnat only. And it shall be his duty to cause such of the said lands, to which the Indian title has been, or shall hereafter- be extinguished, as the President of the United States shall direct, to be surveyed and di vided in the same regulations, as pre provided by law" in -relation to o ther public lands. And the said sur veyor shall receive for his services, hereafter, an annual compensation of two thousand dollars,5 and shall be allowed not exceeding two clerks, whose whole- compensation shall not exceed fifteen hundred dollars per annum.
