The, Commissioners of the Townof Newbern give notice to the Inhabitants thereof, .that.it is the intention as it is the dutv of the Board, $ to endeavor to cause all nui sances which may be injurious to the health of the town, to be remoi ved. Theyremind the inhabitants! that, by the Act of the Assembly1 for preserving the health of the seal port towns of the-State, the follow, ingare declared to be Common nuiJ sances viz. All ponds of stagnant waters ; "all cellars and louodattons of houses, whose botto ns contain stagnant and putrid waters ; all dead putrefied animals, lying about, the docks, streets, lanes, alleys, vacant lots or yards; all privies, that hi vie no wells sunk under them; all slaughterhouses ; all docks whose bottoms are alternately wet and dry by the ebbing and flowing of the Vide ; all accumulation or filth in the streets, lanes, alleys and gutters thereof ; all accumulations of vege table, and animal substances under going a putrefactive fermentation. By the same Act, proprietors of lots, which from their law situation are liable to retain tide; o r rain water, or on which cellars or foundations of houses mav be dug, whether a tenement be ejected bv ;r the same or not, shall, during the; months of June, Julv, August,,September and October, keep the said lots, cellars and foundations dry and rfre6 from stagnant and putrid waters and other filth, uinder the penalty of five dol lars for every week such putrid wa ter or filth shall remain thereon. It is further provided, that if the pro prietors neglect to remove surh nui sance, the Commissioners may caise it to be removed ; the ex pence and fine to be recovered from the proprietors of the; lots. Thes Commissioners intreat the Inhabitants of the Town, to exam ine the premises they respectively occupy, and to remove speedily alt Huisances vvhich may be found upon! them, j They hope there is no citi zen oflthe town so indiflerent to'the lives and happiness of his own fami ly, or so callous to the distresses of his neighbour, as to b ; backward in adopting measures so iissentially ne cessary to the health and prosperity of the1 town. ; .
