Mrs. iiarbauld, . o . BATHING. It is singular, in a temperature' so change ful as ours that bathing is not more in use, and especially the warm bath; as It has nearly all the salutary effects of the cold bath, with out any of its evils in diseased systems, ; as in many instances, the cold bath ought to be avoided, viz: cutaneous diseases, checked perspirations : and, fevers. ' Cutaneous and many bowel complaints are relieved by , the warm bath, (whereas the cold baths would , be injurious) which are common in the latter part otlhe summer and autumn.- It mav be said " with propriety that - warm bathing is more necessary in autumn than any season of the year, because fevers are' then more prevalent, and as it is an acknowledged ; fact that they are not only prevented, hut cured by the warm baths.. Such is the practice from experience in the West-indies, that as soon as the fever months commence, they use the warm baths almost daily.-, a Would it not be, well to follow , their re'xample, when it must not only be looked on as a preventive for the present but it benefits us for the com ing winter, , It is thought by some, that if the day is the least cool, i the use the bath may, , render them liable to receive a cold the reverse is , the fact, for newly received colds are cured by the bath in; ninety-nine cases out of a .hundred.! .The bath taken in winter as in summer, is a luxury. It is surprising how it invigorates the whole ani mal fibres, and how light and elastic it rend ers the spiritsbut its grand influence is in giving an energy . to the cutaneous vessels which enables us to bear without injury the change. of the atmosphere, and hence .those persons who' accustom ' themselves to it, are not only less liable; to various diseases,-; but enjoy a much larger and more animated share of life and health; t . : j A, J ' "Who ia it that advocates but one Presi dential Term, in the face of the Constitution which, says two X .
