' In a work written some year ago, by John Taylor, of London, it is related that Home Tooke, being in company with a gentleman just on the point of fulfilling a matrimonial engagement, observed that he was once in in imminent danger of matrimony, but .was deterred by. an oldjfrieod, to whom he, look ed with reverence for his wisdom and expe rience, and who gave him the following ad- vice : .-:',' " You must first, - said lie, consider the person of the lady, and endeavor to satisfy vmirself that, if shfi has prritrd. shA is like. jy so secure your admiration. It is not necessary to say. more than that he ha testimonials of the moat celebrated professors of Germany , that his glasses are made of the best and finest material, and that they are ground true and exact. They are, therefore, far pre ferable to the mass of rough, irregular and unevenly ground glasses that are daily palmed off, and which are very injurious to the eye. Good glasses may be known by their 6hape, exact centre, an$ sharp, clear, and high ly polished surface. These qualities are to be found in a high degree in bis glasses.
