THE CELEBRATED Hygeian get able JPITfs, Can be had at the Store John Primrose, FAYETTEVILU! STREET, RALEIGH, IT C. MOAT'8 MORISON PILLS. THE GENUINE HYGEIAN VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL MEDICINE Accurately pre pared by Dr. H. S. Moat. of. New Yoik, from the original recipe used for many years by his late fathn, Mr. Thomas Moat, Vice President of the British Col lege of Health. Twenty years' successful -administration of tMtse celebrated medicines in Europe, and more then twelve years in the United States, have established their high reputation. Thousands uf both sexes, who have been restored to health the numerous sufferers rescued from premature deathand volumes of certified cases of cure, embrscing every disease in the long catalogue of human misery ; must convince the most incredu lous of their superiority and the truth of the Hygeian theory, resulting from scientific research and expe rience, namely, that 'man is subject to only one real disease impurity of ihe blood." The Mr'dirines being composed entirely of herbs or vegetable matter, purify the blood, and carry off the corrupt humors of the body, in a manner so simple as to give every day ease and pleasure. Man will be burn to days of bliss, compared to what has hitherto been his lot, weighed down as be has been by disease, infirmities, and sufferings which no earthly power knew how to alleviate, until this dis covery was presented to the world. The weak, Ihe feeble, the infirm, the nervous, the delicate, are in s few days strengthened by their operstion, snd the most obstinate complaints are removed by . perseve rance without tbe ei pease of a Physician. Adapted tn all circumstances and situations, they are the best Medicine ever invented for Families, or to take to sea, preventing scurvy and cortiveness. requiring no change of diet, particular tegimen, or care against ta king cold. The prepotency of these medicines, has indu ced many speculators to sttempt imposition on the public, by forging the labels, or forcing their Imita tions into notice through the medium of the Press S me of them pretend to Hygeian principles, by steal ing from the writing4f the Hygeist, snd copying whole pages into their fulsome advertisements. But as they cannot copy the medicine, their speci fics or their deleterious nostrums prove to be unavail ng, their puffing and piracy become evident ; disap pointment to the afflicted is eventual, and with jut obloquy the pretendf rs sink into oblivion. Tbe Hygeian medicines', fust introduced into this country by H. S. Moat, in 1830, have for the last four years leen prepared by him, and the increasing sale attests their intrinsic merit ; ihry comprise two sorts of Pills, No. 1 and No. 2, in single boxes of each at 25 or 50 cents ; snd Packets containing both sorts, at !, $2, or $3. The Vegetable Cleansing Powders, in large loxes, at 37 J cents, with primed directions. Each picket has a fac simile of the signature of H dhepheard Moat, and to prevent counterfeits, are signed wiih a pen by the district agent and sub-agent on a label of yellow paper. None are cenuine unless they have these signatures, and are obtained from sub-agents, who can produce their written appointments from the district agent, snd whoie names are advertised in their resriective districts. Dr. Hbhubkk: Dear Sir: It affords me much pleasure to inform you, that my daughter is peima nently relieved by the-operation performed by you. She had been to her distressed mother and myself, source of the most painful unessiness for years . hav ing been subject to frequent and violent attacks of croup. During the last twelve months she has had seven attacks, manifestly increasing her already en larged tonsils and elongated uvula and evidently tending to the destruction of her constitution. The slightest cold would bring on one of those attacks She is now tbe picture of health, and her voice and wonted vivacrty restored. I cannot sufficiently thank you. for the blessing you have conferred on us, in the excision of tbe oigans above named, nor can I do jus tice to the expedition and skill, with which you per formed the operation. Long may you live to enjoy the best blessings of this life, and the consciousness of usefulnesSflo your fellows. In haste, yours truly, Oxford, Dec. 14, 1842. TH. T HUN I . Richmond. Va Nov. 21, 1842. Dr. J.HKxnaKX 1 My Dear Sir.- I am perfectly willing to state the circumstances of my case. I was horn with a lupture of the right side : it was small at Grst, but by the time I had reached my twentieth year, it was larger than my two fists, and troubled me a cri-at denl ; indeed any exercise made roe suffer very much : I was often unable to attend to my business fr .m this cause. About tht time, a friend told me of your newly discovered operation for the radical cure of hernia, and I npplied to you two months aftei- wards. I cannot describe the operation you perform ed, but I do noLthinti the painful part of it lasted more than two minutes. You pat me upon s'course of treatment end at the end of five weeks I returned home, cured. It is now upwards of eleven months sinre the operation, and I have had n return oi my complaint and do net believe I ever shall, for I have taken all kinds of exercise, some times very violent, without the slightest pain or inconvenience whatever. I have seen two other cacs permanently cured by your operation in a very short time I am verv respectfully your friend. J. C. L. I am a neighbour of the wr ter of the above letter and consider his cure rft ct. I have also witnessed a number of casfs relieved by Dr. Hendree, without any return of the hernia ever havim taken place I do not regard his singular mode of oerating as at all danger ous. U. O. Dr. Hrjtbrxf. : Dear Sir: For more than iw years, my wife was afflicted with a stricture in the throat, which rendered swallowing so difficult and painful that at times ihe could scarcely take sufficient nourishment to sustain life. After remaining under your care for six weeks, the stricture wss entirely re moved, and she is now in the enjoyment of perfect health. I remain vrry truly, yours, Mcntpelier, Oct. 3d. 1841 R. L. MZJTMSTR fTflHOSE persons having their Teeth, in a situation U to require the aid of a Dentist, are invited to call at Dr. SStringfellnw s office, and examine his tnslru ments. opera' ins chair 4c His extracting forceps are constructed upon anatomical principles, so as to render their application to the teeth easy to himself and ai most without pain to the patii nt; by their peculiar t-hapr all bruising and laceration of the gums is avoi ded, a circumstance of especial importance where the muih and mucous membranes are in an irritable con ditions So many and so varied are the forms of some of his finer instruments, that no tooth or fang, however deeply buried in tbe gum, has ever been presented te him which has not taen instantly extracted, with facil ity and always without the slightest injury to the jaw. One extractor only, the result of toil and study, lately interned by Dr. S. be cannot reveal, and to this in strument, particularly, his ability to extract without severe pain is due. High compliments have been paid, in the American Journal of Dental surgery and other periodicals 10 the elegant finish and perfect adaptation to tbe purpose of his plugging instruments, yet those invented since his arrival in Raleigh are certainly superior, in every respect, to all heretofore ued, since by ihern the re quisite degree of force, for consolidating the gold into a firm and dense plug, can be applied without danger of jarring the tooth, or of slipping and wounding the mouth of ihe patient. Specimens of teeth set on pivots or gold plate, from one to a full set, with springs or upon the principal of a'mospheric pressure, may be seen and examined at any time, as well as a complete stock of incorruptible diamond teeth, 25 000 in number, from which any shade of natural teeth can be exactly matched,' so as to render the difference when in the mouth, absolutely imperceptible. The subjoined article, is from the July number, 1840, if the American Journal of Dental Science. PIVOTING METHOD OF INSERTING ARTI FICIAL TKETH. Our object in advening to this subject, is merely to notice a plan proposed by Mr. L. 8. Stringfellow, sn ingenious and skilful pe titioner, for giving egress to matter, whenever formed, wiihin the root of a tooth on which an artificial crown has been placed, and by which tbe supervention of alveolar abscess may, in almost every instance be prevented. For this pur ose, instead of cutting a groove on the side of tbe pivot, as tecommended some years ago by Dr. L. 8. Parmly, of New Orleans, he -uts it on the side of the tooth; and has invemed an instrument by which it can be don with very great facility. This, together with several other ingeniously constructed instru ments invented by Mr. S. for the excavation of cari ous portions of teeth, preparatory to filling, we may take occasion to Jcsciibe in a future number of our Journal balt. IMPORTANT TO MILLERS. 1 RESPECTFULLY offer to manufacturing Mil lers of N. C, J. F. Barrett's 1'slent Garl.ck and emut Machine. This ma bine is coi.strucUd upon tbe principal ol a rubbec beater and blow r combined. The wheat enters the m.ichme and passes thiougb a strong current of wind as it is beaten, the filth and all extraneous matter being blown oil as fast as sepa rated from the grain ; it then passes under a scroll screw-plate and the desired amount of pressure, is ef fected by a lever and weight, regulaicd at the will of the miller. The grain under the plate is from one to four inches deep, confined and in motion; it necessarily creates a friction upon itself, and consequently breaks every substance softer, and polish s the surface It then passes into a tube at an angle of forty-five de grees of confined wind and every substance whose specific gravity is not ae grtat as the wheat, is separa ted by apertures in the tube. This machine is exten sively used in the North Mates and District of Cnlum bra. I have also many in operation in this 8tale. Wherever, they have leen -put into operation, they have invariably given satisfaction. I deem it unne cessary to ray more in behalf of this machine, but sub mit a few of the many Certificates I have obtained in ita favor. ' J. B. BARRETT. May 5. 36 3m All order addressed to me at Raleigh, will be promptly attended to. Chatham, January 4, (843. I take pleasure in staling to the public, that I have one of Mr. Barrett's Garlic and Smut Machines now in operation tn my mill, snd that ii cleans wheat and prepares it for grinding, superior to any Machine I have ever seen in operstion; not having any of the garlic wheat in mill, I have not been able to test the power of the Machine upon that troublesome pest, but be lieve that under proper management it will effectually remove it. and prepare the grain for grinding. I wdl further state, til at I believe it to be the mosteconom cal wheat cleaning machine ever introduced into this section of country, as it removes the filth without waste or loss of grain. I have observed, since I have bad this machine in operation, that the ground meal bolts much better, and the quality of the flour has been greatly improved. ISAAC CLE GO. I take pleasure in saying that I have had one of Mr. Barrett's Mschines in operation, in one of ray Mills for 3 or 4 months, and that I folly concur with Mr. Clegg. in all the particulars set forth by him above, relative to the Machine. January 9, 1843 C. F. FAUCETT Caswell County, Jan 10, 1843. To an. whom it mat cokcekh This is to cer tify that I have used one of Mr Barrett's Garlic and Smut Machines, fur the last ,6 months in my Mills, and can with confidence recommend it to the public, as the best Machine for cleaning wheat that I have ever seen, and cUans with hs loss of erain, its con struction bring both simple and durable. RICHARD YARBROUGH. Having examined Mr. Barrett's Smut and Garde Machines, separate and apart, and in foil operation, take pleasure in r commending them io the public, as the best for cleaning wheat I have ever seen. Tbe construction of them is both simple and durable re quiring less power and motion thsn nny other thai has come under my oiervatton, which I deem a decided advantage over all others. JOHN T. DODSON . Orange County, Enoe Mills, Jan. 1843 I have been using one of M'. Barrett's Garlick and Smut Machines eight or ten months, and have clean ed Wheat containing every variety of filth Its per formance is highly satisfactory to myself and custom ers, as it removes the extraneous substance without the los of grain, and purifies wheat, superior to any thing I have ever seen. I have cleaned several hun dred bushels of wheat for seed, for my neighbors and gentlemen from a distance, and am fully satisfied that the crops produced from it, must be much improved. Knowing these facts, 1 cheerfully recommend it to the public, as an appurtenance which will soon pay for tseli, in manufacturing Mills. 1 HO. W. HOLDEN. Chapel Hill, Jan. 14, 1843. I have a Machine of Mr Darren's in mv Mill, and can' with pleasure, recommend it to the public, as it cleans wheat better than any thing I have ever seen. I had the best screen snd fan that I rould procure. This machine vupersrdes them as it performs to smut wheat and that affected by the weavel and cheat, what no screen or fan can do, by removing such filth, with out a waste of grain. KENDALL B. WAlTT. Orange County. April I. 1843. Having purchased one of Mr. Barrett's Wheat Cleaners, and put it in successful operation in my mill, I consider it but justice to him, to say that it prepares A heat affiicied with all kinds of filih, and in all con ditions, for grinding, superior to any thing I have ev er knownin use, without a loss of grain. My Flour bolts freer,, ai.d is much bet Ur. since using this Ma cnine. i believe it to be a very valuable improvement ior an iwercnant Mins. V ' CALVIS JOHNSON. Falls oNevse River, May 2, 1843. Having purchased, and for tbe 4at three months used, Barrett's Garlic dt Smut Machine, for cleaning Wheat in Mills. I feel nohesitaiion iu recommending it to Millers, generally, .as a most important and use fl invention for lie purpo-e of cleaning and purify ing Wheat for Grinding. It completely separates ihe Wheat from all lighter and softer substances. The ground Meal, bolts much faster, and certainly much improves the Flour in quality and quantity. JAMES D.
