The terms of Board and Tuition are the same a here

The undersigned takes great pleasure in info ming
the patrons and friends of the School and the public
geneially, that he has rented the Urge and commodi
ous building formerly occupied by Mrs. Jenkins as a
Boarding House, situated immediately opposite to the
Academy, and that h wdl, by litis means, be enabled
to board as saany Students a may be srnt to the vil
lage from a distance. He pledges himself to the pub
lic, that the morals of all the boys entrusted to. his
immediate care and control hall be strictly guarded,
snd, to accomplish this desirable end, no Student
from the Boarding House shall visit the Town, except
on special occasions, and never without the prmi
sion of the Teacher. It is desirable that all Boys,
who have no near relatives in the Town or its vicinity,
shall board with the Principal, upon whom devolves
the great responsibility of preserving the morals of tbe
Students. I t is confidently hoped that the well estab
lished character of Warrenton ior health, its tontigu
ity to the lower regions of Virginia and North t'aroli
na, iu facility of access by the Rail Road, the long ex
perience of the Teacher in the profession to which he
devotes his undivided time and attention, the reasona
ble lernit of the Institution, ai.d the high order of
morals enforced, will all combine to secure to the
School Cjirge and generous patronage. For any in-formatiois-in
relation to tbe professional standing of
the Principal, be would most respectfully refer gentle
men to the Trustees of this Institution, ss well as to
those of the Scotland Neck and Northampton Acade

PROSPECTUS
OF THE
SOUTHERN QUARTERLY REVIEW.
In commencing the Fifth Volume of this publication,
the Editor wishes to urge, with earnestness, its claims
upon the patronage and support of the Citizens of
the South. Its circulation, always respectable, but
never large, requires to lie, and, it is believed, Aay
be, much extended, and the work be thus rendered a
more efficient organ in maintaining the rights and sus
taining tbe literary reputation of the Southern States.
The discontinuance of other periodcials, which haVe
divided the public patronage, renders the present lime
a peculiarly appropriate one for presenting suchco n
sideralions ss will awaken a new interest in it, and for
making such efforts to extend its circulation as will
place it oh a permanent basis.
It msy be proper to state, briefly, the leading oV-
jects which such a Periodical proposes to accomplish.
and also the reasons, which show the importance and
necessity of sustaining one with energy, at the present
time, at tbe South.
The general objects of such Periodicals are pretty
well understood. They serve to embody the Opinions
of enlightened mind on sll great questions in which
ihe interests of the arts, sciences, Inters and politics
are involved, at certain periods in the history of tbe
country. Their aim is, not only to review books,
and, in the spirit of thorough and impartial criticism,
to decide upon their merits, but also, in the perfor
mance of this duty, to discuss important subjects in
such a manner as to make deep and permanent im
pressions upon the character of the people and deali.
nies of the sge ; to diffuse knowledge, not to foster
prejudices ; to create, direct ahd control, not to echo;
opinions ; and finally, to canvass principles and main
tain truth in a calm and dignified manner, and in a
style chaste, luminous, nervous and appropriate. The
offspring of a high state of civilization, they furnish
evidence of intellectual advancement, and are the ob
ject of a just and honorable pride, regarded as the ex
ponents of the literary standing and character of
communities.
The imoriance of sustaining such a work at the
South, with ability ond effect, is equally obvious.
The South, like the North and the other sections of
the Union, owes a duty to the age and to the country
in behalf of her literature. She requires sn able and
