This drainage has beeu effected by two main Ca nal, vis: Pun go Canal, extending from the Like lo the River, both of that name, CJ miles in leogth, with an average widih at boilom of 22 feet, depth to feel, and fall of 12 feet: Aud. Alligator Canal, from the Lake of that uume, to Pun go River, 6 milea long, with an average width at bottom of 3U feet depth ot 7, and full of 10 feel; beaidea, sundry Tributaries or lateral Dilchea. They are, therefore, navigable for Balteaux and t-mpiing into Pamlico Sound, their mouth are accewihie to Sea going Vessels. A large portion of this Lund abound in Juniper, Cypress, and other valuai-le Timber, for which the Forest of Eastern North Carolina is dial oguithed ; and other puna cousist of Prairie, covered with Cat e and Bamboo, and in the esiimatiou of the Eogineers who surveyed it, are of great fertility. Il i there fore considered to offer peculiar inducements both to Grain Farmers, and the getters of Shingle. Slaves, Heading.
