This drainage has been effected by two main Ca nale, viz : Pun go Canal, exteiiding from the Lake to the River, both of that mime, 6J miles iu length, with an average width at bottom of 22 feet, depth 6 feet, and fall of 12 feet: And, Alligator Canal, from the Lake of that name, to Puugo River, 6 miles lou, with an average width at bottom of 3D feet, depth of 7, and fall of 10 feet ; beside, sundry Tributaries, or lateral Ditches. They are, therefore, navigable for Balteauz and emptying into Pamlico Sound, their mouths are accessible to Sea-goiug Vessels. A large portion of this Land abound iu Juniper, Cypress, and other valuable Timber, for which the Forest of Eateru North Carolina is distinguished ; aud other parts consist of Prairie, covered with Caue and Bamboo, and in the estimation of the Engineers L who surveyed it, are of great fertility. It is there fore confide red to offer peculiar inducements bom to Grain Farmers, and the getters of Shingles, Staves, Heading, &C, die, and, with excellent Juniper wa ter, is thought to be more favorable to health than most parts of the low country. To immigrants, now arriving in the Ports of the United Stales iu unusual uuuibers, especially those from Holland aud Germany, accustomed to a similar country iu many respects, these Lauds will afford a soil as fertile as any iu the North-western States, with easy access to the Sea, aud the great markets of the world, for its productions, and within three days' sail of New York. A credit of one, two and three years, will be given to Purchasers, on Bonds with approved security, and the titles will be warranted ; but deeds will be with held, uulil the final paymeut of the purchase money. A New' School for Boys, IT is designed by the Bishop of the Diocese, to open a School for Boys in the neighborhood of Kaleigh. For this purpose, an estate has been pur chased about 8 mile from the City, wbich, in res pect to retirement, health fulness, and pleasantness of situation, is all thai can be desirrd for such an insti tution. The buildings will accommodate, comfort ably, thirty boys, which, for the present, must be the limit of the Sehool It is ueeigned, in this School, to revive a class, which, unfortunately, has become almost extinct in our community, namely, the class of boys. With this iew. pupils will be admitted at any period of childhood, however early, but not afler they are 14 ye.irs of age Thy may continue in the School, ss long, as by their good conduct, they entitle themselves to in privileges The use of To bacco in any form, by the boys, will not be allowed. And above all. and this is the great object of the School, a constant endavor will be made so to imhue the minds of the children with moral and religious knowledge, principles, and affections, that when they really gel to be men, they may be fitted to discharge the high functions of an American citi zen, with an eye steadily directed towards their citi zenship in that ' better country, which is eternal in the heavens." To this end. ihe Head of the School will be a Clergman, who will be tbe spirituaPfatber of the boy ; and a chapel will he erected -the daily services of which, it is earnestly hoped, will mate rially contribute towards " bringing many sons unto g!ory." Due notice will be given of the time when the School will be opened, which, probably, will not be later than the 1st July. After the opening of tbe School, its Sessions will correspond with those of St Mary a, for the convenience of parents and guar dians, who may desire to send children lo both Schools. The expense for hoard, washing, 4;c. with tuition in the Ancient Languages, English and French, will not exceed 175 per annum. 1 The. advantages of every kind afforded to the boys, will be at leaat equal to those furnished by the bet Northern Schools.
