THE year is divided into two Sessions of five months each ; the first Session, begiuning on tbe first of January, and the second Session, on the first of July. v It is the design of the Preceptor, that this Institu tion shall not be surpassed, in the advantages afford ed for acquiring a thorough English, Classical and Mathematical education. A majority of the Students study the Classics, with the intention of entering some Unirersjty. But those, whose means are limited, can acquire a full Collegiate course, both in the Classics and Math ematics. With the design of making the course of Studies as extensive as possible, a scientific Book keeper has been engaged. Aud although Classical Students may suppose, that they will never become Accountants, yet a knowledge of this Science is ne cessary to men in all kinds of business; but, more especially to those, who expect to engage in Mercan tile pursuits, or to become practical business men. A wing is about to be attached to the Academy, for the Juvenile Department, which will be finished by the first of January. The Teacher of this de partment will wholly devote his attention to the in struction of Boys, whom Parents or Guardians may consider so young, that they caouot, or will not, be wsll taught by men, who are giving instruction to older Students in the higher branches ef learning. And as Pupils beginning the rudiments of au Eng lish Education, require more time and oate on the part of a Teacher, than they do in more advanced studies, this Teacher will only instruct in Reading, Writing and Spelling, and the elementary principles of those brauches, preparatory for the other depart ments of, the Academy. They will be superintend ed by the Principal, and will not be allowed to min gle with the others, unless it is desired, nor required to drill. The New Year. - .A FRIEND SAID TO US THE OTHER DAY, "It seems to me that all the La dies go to the Ladles' Saloon to buv Shoes for their Children ; and if they want Shoes for the rase 1 must be bought from the Ladies' Saloon or they are not satisfied. . If they want a pair of Gaiter Boots, and particu larly if they, want something new aud handsome theu as well as ever, it. must come from the Ladies' Sa loon." t " How is it Mr. Addington' that your establish ment is so popular among the Ladies." Why my friend, our Saloon is well situated on the fashionable side of the great " Broadway" of the City of Norfolk (apart from the Market Carts aud. noise and cpn fusion amidst the stores on the Square, which is very disagreeable to Ladies.) The Ladies can be better suited and better accommodated here than elsewhere they can get at once every desirable article for themselves and Childreu, which with the attention they receive, must and will commaud due favors of the LadieK, ' "Well Mr. Addington, the neat appearance of your establishment, its location, and your large as sortment of Fancy Boots and Shoes must coulribV ute to the merits of your Saloon. I have a large family to buy Shoes for, and I will hereafter give you our patronage. I shall also take great pleasure in recommending the Ladies Saloon to others.. The above instance is one of almost daily occur rence we now meet with in the transaction of our business we are' plejsed with any manifestation 'which the public may choose to make of the satisfac tion they derive iu trading with us; and we add our assurance that no effort shall be spared on our part to please every Lady and Gentleman who will call at the Ladies Saloon. Our assortment this year shall be more varied, if possible, than it has been heretofore ; so that, every Lady, Gentleman, Child and Servaut, shall find the kind of Boots and Shoes at the Ladies Saloon which they may want. Now if -there are auy persons dis posed to turn over a new leaf aud try to do better this year than they did last in a pecuniary point of view T1IEY ARE ALL JllOST RESPECTFULLY INVITED t6 deaf with us" this year at our popular aud fashionable La dies' Saloon. Such persons as prefer it can have a Pass" Book for theirowu use, in which cau be entered all the purchas es for the family, and thus saye the trouble of writiug orders to Seryauls aud need settle their account only once in 6 months.
