UNITED STATES MARSHALL'S OFFICE, New York, Dec. 26, 1847. Messrs Wyalt und Ketcham : Gentlemen Un derstanding that you are the General Agents for the sale of Dr. Upham's Vegetable Electuary, for the cure of the Piles, I have deemed it my duty to vol unteer a recommendation in behalf ol that invaluable medicine. 1 have been afflicted for many years with the Piles, and have tried various remedies, but with no beneficial effects. Indeed, I began to consider my case hopeless. But, about the first of September last, I was prevailed upon by a friend to make a tri al of the above named medicine ; I look his advice, and rejoice to say that I am not only relieved, but as I believe, perfectly cured. I most earnestly recom mend it to all who may have the misfortune to be af flicted with thai annoying and dangerous disease. Very respectfully, Your ob't servant, ELY MOORE. REMARKABLE CURE OF PILES Thirtt Years Standing!! Mouht Washington, Berkshire Co., Mass Nov. 29ih, 1847. Messrs. Wtatt 6c Ketcham : Gents For 30 years 1 have been afflicted with Piles, general Debil ity, and Inflammation, causing tumors and prolapsus of the bowels, and which had resisted all the medical treatment Dr. Chapman and others could give. The last three years of that time my sufferings defy de scription. I was confined to bed unable to help my self, and at last given up by my physicists and friends in despair of ever gaining my health ; in fact, for a time before I commenced using Dr. Upham's Elec tuary, I was entirely speechless, and my burial clothes were made. But under the beneficent mercies or Providence, and the use of Dr. Upham's Electuary, though an old maw, I have the pleasure of staling the fact to the public that my health is now good, and I hope to live many years, if it is God s will, (o make known the virtues of Dr. Upham's Electuary, and to recommend it to my afflicted fellow creatures. It helped me beyond the expectations of all who knew my case, and I can only say to others, that it is in my opinion, the best medicine in the world lor Piles, or any other disesse of the bowels ; and if ihey will use it according to the directions, I will myself warrant a cure, in every case. Yours, with the utmost expression of thankfulness, CORNELIUS SPUR. Eskamost, Berk Co. Maes.,? So, one of my opponents will leave it with the " learned to decide" whether there be m re than one cause of disease. Disease mav be defined as the on. posite of health. What is health 1 It is the per formance, regularly, of all the functions of the body, fully and without pain. What is disease? It is want of Life in the part where the pain is felt, or wnere the numbness or enlargement is situated. How do you know it is so 1 Look at that piece of meat. t is becoming putrid. What makes it putrid? it was not so when forming part of a living body. No Because theu the life principle was able to throw off a particular matter which neutralized the atmospher ic air, and instead of producing disease produced the breath of life, and is the cause of the beat of the hu man body. So a want of life in a part, is disease in that part. Of course it is. For how could impure humors collect, if the powers of life were strong enough to throw them out without the aid of medi cine ? the thing is impossible. But say some, how do you know that the powers of life would not throw out the impure humors collected in any part of the body, without resorting to medicine? I answer to such, that it would be like the aiding a man after he was crushed to death with a load, which we bad the power to take off bis back before he was huit ; but we, like hard-hearted wretches, wished to see wheth er he could not get up without help, and when be is dead, we gay oh ! I wish I had helped him before ! This would be a case of crime next 10 murder ; and it is not tbe less a crime, that we kill ourselves by waiting until nature helps herself.' We have tbe means in our own hands of cure, without reducing the life principle to its lowest ebb, but on the contra ry, every time we use Brand reth's Pills, when we are sick, we are belter and betrer, until we are again restored to health. These Pills supply that princi ple to the human body which it requires when the life principle is deptessed by disease, to guard it from the injurious effect of ibe atmosphere ; and those who use them, are satisfied this result is obtained. Here in Providence, 1 can refer, if necessary, to many who will corroborate all I have asserted, and especially to an old gentleman eighty-three years old, who has ta ken them the last seven years, and no other medicine, and who, no one would suppose, to look at him, was much over 6ixty. His life, as he assured me, appear ed to have been renewed, since he had recourse to Brandreth Pills. Then there is Mrs Hooper's case, of Wareharrs Bajnstable Co Mass.; for nearly twenty years she was unable to render any assistance to herself. Her disease showed itself as St. Vitus' Dance. One hnn, dred and fifty boxes of Pills cured ber, and she has beeri healthy now for seven years, and fully compe tent to all the duties of her family. Her case, a written by herself, was published five years ago. I have just received the case of a medical gentle man, who resides at Sherbrook, Canada, who for twenty years was sorely afflicted with a disease, which came out in blotches and scabs all over his body. This gentleman so far forgot his prejudices, which too often curse his profession, as to apply per sonally to Dr. Brandreth, and his course proved a happy one. Within six monlhs he was entirely cured of his miserable and tormenting disease by the use of the Brandreth Pills. Time would fail me, were I to go on enumerating the many cures of diseases, considered incurable by Physicians, which have been affected solely by the use of the Brandreth Pills. Lei me assure all those who have not yet tried this Blessing of the Human Race, in no case can they do injury, because they are made of those herbs and roots which experience has fully proved always har monize with the human body. The omission of pur ging with them in case of sickness, is often the cause of a long attack, often ending only by a cessation of life. How important it U that this coarse should bo pursued ; it will not only be the surest way of res toring ; but it will, in a great measure prevent the recurrence of constitutional maladies and will surely weaken tbe malignity ef the attacks, and in time se cure robust health. AU persons should carefully purchase Brand re th's Pills only of the regularly appointed Agents. They should thus insure themselves the genuine article ; otherwise' they may often light upon a counterfeit ar ticle. Be careful. O" The above Pills areon sale by WILL. PECK, Raleigh N. C.
