World; whom faithful and approved services in the first offices of this government recommend; whom Integrity and competence (I hope) secure against the undue influence of any lost whatever, and by whose capacity our affairs will be administered in a respectable manner. To convince your lordship that we are not by any means the passive, contemptible people you are lately pleased to thank us, I beg leave to refer you to the minutes in the Plantation office of 1736. These, with the ignominious Retreat of from this island soon after, bear testimony that in other, and will give no tolleration to the wickedness or criminal weakness of any man in poower; and i shall for this time conclude with assuring you, that he, whom or corruption may take from high or low life, to any office of honour and true in this government, without personal merit will never gain the approbation or respect fo bahamians.
