An Aged Fbintkk. Robert McKnight, one ol the oldest printers in the South, died in the Almshouse of Dallas county, Ala., recently. Anybody may hate our share ol "them rations." , Good Advice. A number of colored youths having gotten into a dispute not far from oni office, one of the party became disgusted and delivered himself of the following sage advice : now jes sheet up nigga' you dont struck me as been a yankee nigga' no L- No yankee nigga aint all time takk g about what he done durin' do war. We thought the remark might be studied to advantage by a number of gentlemen who pre tend to be ardent Uai ju men ; but take a great deal of pains to publish the part they took in the war. I Gband Concebt and Musical Fbstivaia We mentioned a few mornings since that a numbei of ladies justly celebrated for musical talent were preparing to give us an entertainment at an early day. We are now authorized to state that a con cert and musical festival will be given at the Court Room, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings the 26 and 27 ins. The object of tbe entertain ment is to raise funds for the benefit of Christ Church in this city. We are pleased to learn that one or more fair vocalists recently of our neighboring city of Goldsboro' wili be present and participate on the occasion. The Grand Pbeientatiox -Concebt- As mauy persons who purchased, tickets in the "Grand, Charitable Presentation csnoert in aid of the Southern Orphans Association" which was to have taken place in Baltimore, on the 17th of June, have inquired, of us whether the list oi prizes has been published; we will state that we have as yet had no intelligence even cf the draw ing of the prize although the day has pass long enough for us to have heard. - Nevertheless if the grand scheme is all right it would take ten, or fifteen days to complete the drawing of the immense number of tickets ; and we we disposed to believe it will prove to be all riglt :, v An Enthusiastic Crowd. A correspondent or reporter for the Republican gives an account of a meetirg of the Fifth Ward Republican Asso ciation last Thursday evening, on which occasion the following enthusiastic exercises were gone through with ; Dr. H. J. Menninger being present, was invit ed to speak, and engaged the attention of the audience for over one hour, and was vehemently applauded. Mr. Hibbard followed in an impassioned speech, fervid with glowing eloquence, shd con cluded by moving tfiat the entire audience join iu singing, "Rally Round the Flag," which was given in grand accord with a right hearty good will ; also the soul-stirring song, " When Slavery dies, there will be Freedom, lhen, only Ihen." - This remieds us of the description Hon. Victor Bamnger gave cf the. Republican" party in his letter to Judge Kelly. We annex it as a rare specimen of v.hat common people style the "hifalautin. t - "That party (the Republican) aimed from the first to eternise the nation upon the broadest b wis of personal and civil freedom. This idea. w. it tea upon the tablet of its heart woven as a frontlet between its eyes and as an ornament about its neck, it seeks to render coeval with the ages to come and co-extensive with the utmost bjnds of the Republic." , Commi881oneb8 of Beatjfobt.
