alyzed. Judge Pearson was first elected
Judge of the Superior Court in.iSoG. lie
served in this capacity until 1848, when
he Was elected a Judge of the Supreme
Court. He served as Associate' Justice
of the Supremo Court until December,
when he was elected' Chief Justice of
that court. Ho acted in 'this capacity
until 1863, when his office was vacated
by the results' of the war. lie wa3 re
appointed by Gov. llolden in 180-5, and
was elected by both parties in 8G8. It'

one exception Chief Justice Pearson

out regard to party.. Nine-tenths of
the; lawyoi'sjof this state read law under,
land were prepared for the Bar by, Judge
Pearson-, at his couutry saat, at Rich
mond Hill. In politics he was a Whig,
lie was an unflinching Union man du

the Cenfederate gavernment to override
