.Editor Post: Thinking perhaps
your readers would bo interested about
matters in our 'good old county I will
write you. There is not much saying
politically yet. Moat persons approve
your course in trying to have the col
ored and poor whites assert their rights
as jurors in our. courts, which h.v3 been
Tery much reglected, as every man of
ordinary intelligence Knows. There
has oniy been one colored jaror in
Sampson, notwithstanding ihere are
several who are men of intelligence.
The fault is somewhere and will only
be found when welect m&a to repire
sent us in the ijpiate Legislature" and
National Congress to make laws who
respect them as citizens and have those
laws enforced, both in the State and
National courts.. It ia hoped by all
loyal men tl-at the Hon. IK L. liusscll
may get the appointment of Solicitor of
the Eastern District of North1 Carolina
knowing him to be an able lawyer and
one who will have the laws enforced,
especially the. election' .'-la w, whicijt as
at present managed are a mere farce.
Almost .every person outside ot the
Bourbon ring.are in fayor of lion. VV.
P. Canaday-for CoDgr'css, knowing him
to have berli fairly elected' before 1 but
counted out, or tricked out, by those
who had control ' of the election ma
chinery. If he can be prevailed loru'n
again we think Lim Wronger tnaa bet
fore, and besides h has done more (of
the Ilepubllcaa. and auii-Prohibilion
parties than any "man perhaps ia tho
.State, and certainly more than iih one
in the ThiidCongresiional District. So
you can set us doy. a all right when tbe
