Pearsall, of Kenansville township, Duplin county, killed a moccasin snake eighteen inches in circumference and seven feet and a half long. The Rockincrham Courier says that Mr. Calvin Kearns of Hill's store, Ran dolph county, while riding along in a buggy, on the 15th ult., accompanied by his w'ife and child, was overtaken by a thunder storm. A tree under which he was passing was struck by lightning which communicated with the wheel of his buggy anil thence to the shalt and horse. The horse was killed, leaving Mr. K. aud family uninjured. A trotting match for $1,000 be tween Aiax, of Martin county, N. C. and Bob Lee, of Edgecombe, will come off on the 17th day of June. Both horses are now in training for the coming contest.
