The title of Princioal Doorkeener
was changed to Sergeant-at-Arms.
Anticipating the hour fixed for
action on the resolutions of respect
to cx-uov. uraham. deceased, a
member elect to the Convention
from Orange, they were, on motion,
taken up.
Eulogies were delivered by
Messrs. JJocKery.Llingraan.O'rlara,
bmythe, Tourgee, Crosby, Thorne,
Manning, of Chatham, and Rob-
bins.
The efforts of Messrs. Dockery,
Smythe and O'Hara were very fine;
the two latter being colored men,
created a leenng of pleasurable sur-
prise, tneir remarks oeingan Honor
to their race, as well as to them
selves.
The remarks of Judge Tourgee
were unquestionably eloquent and
touching, and never in. our life did
we before witness so powerful an
effect produced upon any body of
men. Strong men in whom all the
tender emotions are supposed to be
buried and the springs of sentiment
dried up, shed copious tears, the
sneaker himself being moved to
tears. The scene was indeed an
imDressive one. and will be long
remembered.
Hon. John Manning succeeded
Judge Tourgee: After the elo
quent eulogy of the delegate from
Guilford. (Mr. Tourgee,.) whose
words came to our ears as sweet as
snring time breezes over a bed of
violets. I think the Convention
should pass tho resolutions and ad
journ with the words of the charmer
in our ears to a raw us nearer ana
closer together." ' A deservedly
high compliment.
After tho completion of the eulo
gies, the Convention adjourned by
a standing vote.
