Their evidence, will be of value. In every place where such prisoners existed local sanitary and Christain associations v existed, the members : of -.which busied them selves in caring for the sick and wounded, and in visiting the prison and . camps. Kepu table citizens at? .Elmira, Rtxik Island, Chicago, Columbus, and elsewhere know the facts. Let them give their testimony. Tho honor of one's country ; should be sacred. We who fought for liberty and union fiurely have as vital an interest in that honor as the men who com pelled us to fight by their mad at tempt . to perpetuate slavery and destroy the Union. Let us have the facts. Bear in mind that the object of such communications is not par tisan but historical. Two civiliza tions or systems of srovernraent have been and are still on trial. This question of Andersonville and its attendant horrors belong to the trial. The case has been reopened, and the verdict once solemnlv rendered is now challenged. A cloud of witnesses are still li vinsr. r 7 Let them trive the facts. Com munications can also be sent to the office of The Republic, Wash ington, D. C, if writers do not de sire to send to their county or other journals. Let every man respond, and at once.
