Dinger of WalklaK Across Bridge vrltb -:'iAofer Man's Wife ' Shortly after dark on Wednesday evening, two ' well dressed married men were promenading across a bridge in New Haven, Conn., each with a strange woman, also fashionably dressed, lean ing confidingly on his arm. All at once the pic ture changed. A powerful, enraged man, who. in' one of the thoughtless women, saw his own wife, and who had been watching the couples meandering, stole stealthily and silently up, and before either of the masculines could escape, he felt himself lifted from his feet balancing in mid air over the railing of the bridge a moment and then occupying a miserable situation, almost bu ried in clam mud, knee deep, ten feet below. Both the victims were athletic men. and yet they were lifted over and plunged into the quagmire mud below in far less time than it takes to tell it Both floundered around in the mud for a good while in the darkness it seemed tm . age to the flounderers but both managed to crawl out with ruined clothes, wiser if not happier men. - m -i guDDEiT ' Delt; fc First Lieiveuant .Henry Tacker. of the regnlar army. arK ed at the Bur net; House, Cincinnati, at fib' r;t rnidnight of Saturday night, having coiue t j vLf Ohio and Missisfiippi railroad from Sf. 1 lie Wi iKea -c-pt,- entered " omn: " iced Biowjy np tne etps imni if" ;'offlce tdfopfln, aud iaj'ut-: bleeding r.t the Incgs. ; a h i . gUKhingrfrcm tia mootb. a tsinuta 6i two 'iBfterv?''.- ' ! parents r vj in Philaueii i .1 of .1 " retil: J in i-jreafr; has ids father: be- .element mLf ip. Tha' Beauties bt Berlin., - - - The King of Prussia, on , tjhe.' occasion of his triumphal entry into Berlin, at the head of his victorious arm v. found in his oath a ealaxv of f charming young ladies, the eZite'of the-beauty of the city. One of these presented to the King a wreath of laurel, tied with a broad white satin ribbon, trimmed with gold, which 'His Majesty gallantly attached to his pernor- and wore through the succeeding part or tne pageant. .-; A correspondent mentions tnat when it was first proposed to appoint a deputation of the young ladies of Berlin, it found general favor at once, uu former occasions ox a similar na ture the ladles had been elected either for their rank or else the social standing of their fathers, and had not been especially conspicu ous for their beauty. It was, therefore, re solved bv the committee of management - to select the deputation entirely for their beauty, But now an unforeseen trouble arose, and that was to find a man bold enough to undertake to play the part of Paris, and decide the con flietiner claims of each voune ladv. This diffi culty was obviated by selecting a committee of three, it being suggested that any one memoer, when reproached by a rejected fair one, could maintain that he had been outvoted, it was as a'rst proposed to appoint twenty-five young la dies, but such an outcry was raised, that the number was increased to fifty, and these had to be chosen by the unfortunate committee out o f, it is said, 1,700 applicants, who sent letters anl photographs m showers. xne aress omciaiij dictated for the occasion was as follows: " Low dresses of white muslin, with short sleeves, white muslin 'petticoats, white satm shoes, a knot of white ribbons on the left shoul der; round the waist a girdle of gold," and in the hair a wreath of green leaves. The only orna ment allowed, ear-rings, to the exclusion of zings, brooches and necklaces. Dbt Goods. Business is active. .Numerous buyers from the interior are in the market Prices rather lavor buyers as dealers are xeanui oi any heavy accumulation of goods. ' Brown shirtings and sheetings are lower, except for very fine qualities. Bleached goods are in active demand at fair prices, but the recent advance sought for is not obtained. Heavy drills are muca wanted. Canton flannels are in excessive stock, and prices are lower, b tripes are active and steady. De nims are in good ' request , for heavy goods. Prints have been well sold down to a low stock. and prices are steady. The recent buoyancy is lost. - Ocinghams are nrm ana active, oeiames are also active, with a light f stock; prices aTe steady.' . Coburgs are firm and brisk. Shawls are very active, but the lower qualities are in too large stoek, and have declined in price. .Broad cloths are -dull and lower, except of very fine qualities." . Fancy cassimeres are also being pressed to sale at a decline. Low and medium satinets are. weak. y Tweeds are more 'active. Blankets inactive. Foreign good are hardly so active. The stock is rather greater than the im mediate demand. The better qualities only are ctive, viz: Fine bombazines, mousselines ' de aine. silk poplins. ,The auction sales have lct n spirit but desirable goods are firm. A Certain Cure for tUis Disease MAY BE POUND IN THE USE OF PERRY DAVIS Vegetable Pain Killer! ; ' PERRY DAVIS Sib : Although personally stranger to you. yet the benefits I have received )rnm the use ot your invaluable remedy, tbe Pain Killer, induces me to pen a word of praise for it Experience has convinced me that for Headache, Indigestion, Pain in the Stomach, or any other part of the system, severe Chills, Weariness, CnmmoL Colds, Hoarseness, CHOLERA, CHOLERA MORBUS. Diarrhoea. Dysentery. Toothache, c, there it nothing better than the Pain Killer. I have this honr re cot ered fiora a severe attack of the Sick Headache by using up two teaspoonsful, taken at thirty minutes inter vals, in a wine glass full of warm water. . ,. - I am confident that through the blessing of God, it saved me from the cholera during the summer of 18 9. Traveling amid heat dart toil, change of diet and con stant ex,Ksnre to an infected atmosphere, my system whs daily predispose i to dvsenterv attacks accompanied with pain, for which the Pain Killer was a tmerrign remedy, one teaspoonful curing the worst casein an hour, or at mist, hal f a day. My brothers in the ministry have usd it with ojuch success in various diseases, - I have heard many cases the country over, of dysentery being cured by its use. Put in the teeth, it would stop the toothache - - ftratiluae, and a desire for its general use, has drawn from me this unsolicited testimonial in its lavnr. . - D. T. TAYLOR, Jb., Minister of the GospeL ' - The following letter is rom Mr. .Woodward, of St Louis, to J. N. Harris, Esq., New London, Connecticut : Mr. Woodward is a resident of St . Louis, a gentleman of high respectability, and during the prevalence ot the Cholera in that city, has watched the result of the application ol - the Pain Killer for this disease, and his testimony can be relied spon with the utmost eo fiilence, Diax Sib : You reool ect when I saw you in New Lon don in January last my expressing to oh my most san guine expectations that DAVIS' PAIN KILLER would have a tremendous sale in the West this season, and my anticipations Lave been more than realized, and the testi mojy of thousands who have nsed it has been that they w uid not be. willing to go to bed at night without it in the house. - On the appearance of the Cholera in this city, such was the confidence in the Pain Killer as a remedy, tnat mini who purchased it remarked to me that they had no fears or dread of the Cholera as they had the Pain Killer by them, and hundreds took it daily as a preventative, for no person can have a d'-rangemeut of the bowels or di arrhoea if they use this medicine. This was the security and confidence of hundreds acquainted with it and when their frauds were attacked with the Cholera they would administer this remedy in large quantities internally, and alo externally by bathing and rubbing them with it, ai-.d in every case when it has been taken in any of the first ntues o . this disease it has uroved successful. I consider it an infallible remedy. I have not heard of any individual iu any family, who used the Pain Killer when attacked, but what sp-edil) recovered. . The cU-rk informed me that he administered it to per sons when cold a d in the cramps, and It gave immedi ate relief, but still it should be given quickly, for when the discharge of "rice wafer" has begun, the hope of life ha fled.'
