Logan, Judge of the Superior Court, Ninth Judicial District of this State.has issued an order restraining and enjoin ing the commissioners from selling the Wilmington, Charlotte aud Rutherford Railroad, now advertised to be sold April 10th, under a decree of the Supe rior Court of New Hanover county. Childs claims to be a stockholder of one hundred shares in the road, and the order of injunction on his complaint sets a hearing at Cleaveland, Rutherford county, for April 11th, onedaj- after the appointed sale. So here is another hitch, and no immediate prospect for the completion of the much desired road from Wilmington tothemounta.ns and the far West. Davenport Female College. The authorized Agent, Rev. T. J. Gat tis, is at present in our city, canvassing in the interest of this institution. We commend Mr. Gattis and the cause he represents to the favor of our people. Davenport College is the property of the North Carolina Conference, and richly deserves aid from our people. The prop erty is worth about $25,000. It has never received from the State at large, or the North Carolina Conference, a dollar, ex cept what has been collected by the Agent the present year. There are also some improvements greatly needed on the building, as well as refurnishing, and new apparatus. Thus far the Agent has met with encouraging success, and we trust the good people of Raleigh will not fall lebind other places of much smaller population and far less means, in their contributions. The necessity for this appeal grows out of the fact that General Stoneman's men, at the close of the late war, were quartered in the Col lege building, greatly damaged them, and destroyed nearly all the furniture, with the apparatus. This Institution is located in the town of Lenoir, Caldwell county. Who built Sclma ? ; BY T. C. K. Just after the war a yankee named Sharp came into this State, and stop ping four miles from Smithfield, in Johnston county, ho located. This yan kee had enterprise. He looked around and was struck with the idea that it was a good place to build a town. He had money and he forthwith commenc ed the building. The four miles good road that the people now travel to and from Smithfield, this man employed tho hands and had cut. He then paid for moving the present depot ware house, that was then one mile further up the road, down to the spot he had selected for the town, and he called the plaee Selma. Other persons commenc ed building and Selma is now a busy little manufacturing place, and full of steam mills and distilleries. But what became of Sharp ? lie sunk eight thou sand dollars at building his town, and has moved home with his family, a poorer and a wiser man. But just see what he left behind him! And who thinks of it once? And who cares whether Sharp now bo living in a pal ace or a pauper in a poor honse ?
