shall revoke the designations as depos
itories of the United states, .of the sur
veyor of customs at Cincinnati and the
collector ol customs at Chicago, and
shall direct the transfer of all the books,
accounts, vouchers, propertj', and pub
lie moneys in the otfices, of the saiel de
positories to the offices of the said as
sistant treasurers, respectively.
Sec. 8. That the assistant treasurers
authorized bv this act to be appointee!
shall receive a salary of five thousand
dollars each per annum, to be paid
quarterly yearly at the treasury of the
Unite-el .States, which shall be in lull for
all their services; and a sulhcient
amount to pay said salary until June
thirtieth, eighteen hundreel and seventy
lour, is hereby appropriated.'
Sec. 9. That the assistant troasurers
herein provided for irav, with the ap
proval of the Secretary of the Treasury,
appoint the same number ot clerks and
messengers in their respective offices,
and at the same compensation, as is now,
provided by law lor the ollices of the
United State's depositaries at Cincinnati
antl Chicago, respectively; and all un
expended balances ofynoneys heretofore
appropriated, or that may hereafter be
appropriated, by the payment of the
clerks and me-ssengers appointed in the
ollices of the assistant treasurers created
by this act. -
SfC. 10. That there shall be appropri
ateei anel paid, out of any money iu the
Treasury not otherwise appropriated
the sum of live thousand .dollars, to be
expended, under the direction of the
Secretary of the Treasury, in such re
pairs anel additions as may be necessary
to put in nooel condition fer immediate

herein mentioned, or such others as
