Early in the previous autura. sow three acres of winter rye, to be cut mn next spring. 2. Eflrly in April, sow three acres of oats, to be cut from June 12th to July 1st. 3. Late in April, sow two acres of cats or barley, to be cut from June 1st to July 15th. 4. Early in May. sow two acres in oats or barley, to be cut from July mm to August loth. , i H. Middle of May, sow two acres ox oat- or barley, to be cut Iron Au gust 10th to September 1st. - t ii. Middle of June replant plot iso. l with corn, which Ia to be cut iroru September 1st to 10th. 7. Early in June resow plot No. 2 with barley, to be cut from Septem ber 20th until roots and cabbages come in, which is usually October 1-ttolCth. '8. In September, three acres of riots, Nos. 4 and 5 are to be sown in winter rye for the next spring's , use. . Mr.. Waring's experience he claims demonstrates two general principles: .1. The earliest abundant food will be secured by the use of winter rye. 2. The best and most abundant food for the later summer and early actum time will be secured by the use of I ndian corn. An experiment was made last year by the officers of the Agricul tural Society of Pennsylvania to determine the amount of food per a;re. Seed was planted May loth at the rate of seven bushels per acre, one-half drilled, in drills two and a half feet apart, the other sown broadcast. On the 20th of August began cutting, and on the drilled Iart gathered 34,000 pounds or 17 tons per acre. , Hungarian grass is quickly turn ed into food for cattle. On the same farm three pecks were sown per ncre on tho sis of Mmy. - .August 2d seventy -three days after plant- : ing it was gathered and tinea, inakintr 6VJ04 pounds of excellent bright hay, which the horses and cattle ate with n relish, 'liking it fully a well as they did the clover. Josiah Quincey's method of soil " in:r is as follows: ? - May 30 to July 1, feed cut fodder from early clover, rye or orchard grass. August 1 to 81, feed sown' corn, planted from May 1 every ten days. September 1 to 30, recut the oats on held rso. 1: also feed one acre l ite corn, sown In June, every ten daj-s. October to November, r feed tops of vegetables. After December to next May, feed hay and roots, mixed and linely cut or cooked. Lucerne is most valuable for soil ing. Jt requires no re-seedingevery year. The first year it yields two crois June and September, in succeeding years it will yield four crops, each season June, July, au rust and Se ntem be r about a ton lr acre from each mowing. Most of its nourishment comes from the atmosphere: hence it is an enrich ing crop as a green manure. The following will be found a 1 radical schedule for a herd of cows.. "or green feeding during summer bow : 1 acre early rye the previous fall. 1 acre early oats. ' i 1 aero sowed corn, May 1st, re sown August 15th. 1 ucre cabbages. 4 acres Lucerne. 2 serfs sugar beets and mangolds. For winter feed, cut hay from ten oi-. .f rlnvpr nr timothv., and roots from three to five acres addi- j tional. As the ground becomes I more and more rich, the . feeding I capacity of each acre will be In creased, and in time doubled, so that twenty acres can easily main tain twelve to fifteen head the year .routu..
