Bill to punish assaults with deadly weapons was, on motion of Mr. Stan ford, postponed and made special order lor to-morrow at 1 o clock. Bi 1 to repeal chap. -133, laws of 18- bU, in relation to certain public lots in the town of Edenton. Proposes to repeal the act which authorizes the sale of these lots. The bill passed its sec ond reading and coming up under a sus pension of the rules, passed also its third reading, and was sent to the House without engrossment. Bill to abolish the July term of the Superior Court of Wayne county passed its second reading, and the rules being susiKjnded then )assed its third reading, and was ordered to be engrossed and sent to the House. A message "was . received fivm tho Governor announcing the apisjintment of Col. J. McLeod Turner as Keeper of the Capitol, and Sherwood Haywood as Senate Chamber. Mr. Troy moved to lay on the table, which motion was not adopted. Mr. Sandifer offere d a substitute pro viding for two stoves in the rear of tlie President's chair and that the fire places iu that portion of tho chamber be closed. Mr. Troy offered an amendment to the substitute, providing for the closing of the two tire-places near the door in stead of those in the rear of the Presi dent's chair. Mr. Caho moved to lay the whole mat ter on the table, and after some debate moved to withdraw the motion. Mr. Cunningham objected and asked for the ayes ami noes on the motion to table. The motion to table did not prevail. The question before the House was the amendment of Mr. Troy, aud the vote being taken, it was not adopted. ' The question was then npon the sub stitute of Mr. Sandifer, and it was not adopted. The question recurred npon the orig inal proposition, and Mr. Latham asiceu for the ayes and noes. The resolution raises a committee of 7 to investigate the charges of malfeas ance and corruption in office made against Solicitor Harris and report the facts in onler, if they be true, that steps may be taken for his impeachment, j The resolution .was adopted. The bill to regulate the holding of Superior courts in tlie 1st judicial district was taken up aud pa:-sel its second leading. Under a suspension of tho rules the bill came up on its third reading. Onre More a Word on Kerosene, ' 1 Last evening, at Harwich, Mass., two little girls,' of six and four years, respec tively,' were letly with a kerosene lamp burning in the chamlwr in which they had been put to bed. The bill provides that all who have been sheriffs and tax collectors in the years 1872. "73, "74 and ' 7o may collect arrears of taxes for the years aforeeaid under the restrictions imposed by law. On motion of Mr. Richardson the bill was further ameuded so as to prevent sheriffs from collecting insolvent taxes already credited to them, but empower ing the county commissioners to provide for their collection. The bill passed its third readitg and was ordered to be sent to the Senate for concurrence in the House amendments. Messrs. ("raves, Henderson. Carter, of Buncombe. Todd, of Ashe. Cobb, Clarke, of Craven, and Duggan were appointed as the special committee in, reference to the Harris impeachment matter. The bill to require the Secretary of State to perfect grants of lands in cer tain counties and to empower the Regis ter of Deeds to do the same in certain cases was taken up. Mr. King moved to refer to the Judi ciary committee. Lost. The bill passed its second reading. Under a suspension of tlte rules the bill came up on its third reading.
