THE LA.IGEST AND MOT STOCK OF SELECT Hard Tlines. Who doea not know it? Don't we hear it every where in the effiee and store, wsrkshop and fsnn ? Is not the crj universal aad is it not true that what every body tajs is so, must be so ? Now then, in our opinion, there is a good deal of humbug about this cry of "hard times." I; has been the com plaint ever since we can recolKct, sni that is further back than we care to tell. The prices of farm products are low, and the times are not Hush, but throughout the South almost every one is able to obtain the necessari-a of life and many of the luxuries. Of course there are poor p. ople and unfortunate people, and people who don't succeed in life, but it always has been so, and doubtless always will be. The man who before-handed out of debt, can Ret along well, while the man who is in debt, makes progress slowly, and we will never Lave any tin.e when this is not the cats. The result of the general depression and low prices has been to lead our people to habits of econo-ny aad fear -fulneaa of going in debt, aud this is an important point gained. We believe the condition of the South, taking everything into consideration, ia aa good, if not better than it has been aioce the war. It is true thit for five or six years after the close of the war, money was more plentiful and prises batter, but the immense volume of ante bell um debts were hanging over the people. Thousands were compelled to . a Id. a. a a m m . .a. go into Bankruptcy on account of dabta l D"ua ,ro in manmacuirers, aii new mi.xrMj uiurrvu, mu inousanaa more vere ruined by the speculations engen dered by the flush times. Now this lodsbtedneaa ia nearly wiped out and the people are com para' irelvN clear of debt. Men have measurably learned that they are pxr and are governing their expenditures accordingly. They are satisfied that there ia much less neceasity for the universal cry of hard times than is generally supposed, and As we anticipate a change in our bust ness ou January 7J we ill close out at cost the following fiDe goods, viz : Apple, Fea:h ;nd Quince Butter (nice goo-s.)
