In this position he was a m st vtli aient otlicer and inaugurated and promoted some spec'al reforms ami improvements in the mauagement aud couduct of that institution. lie was also a Trustee of the State Univer sity. The dt ceaed gentleman was a vigor ous thinker aud doer, aud a man of luge a'tutand purposes, lie was pos sessed of much property, and his char ily, not ostentstiopp, was well and lbrallv bestowed.
