The wedding occurred on the 11th instant. The young lady went to New Uaven, ostensibly to visit friends, and on reaching there went by the canal road, northward, to Westfield, Mass., where her lover joined her. The marriage took place either there or in SpringnVH, accounts differing on this point. Both returned to Hartford immediatoly, and concealed their se cret. On Friday night last Nellie dis appeared from home, and on Saturday night it was learned she had left Hart ford by train, accompanied by her bus band. Scarcely bad this news had time to impress itself on the minds of the distressed family when a brother of vouog SLepard called at the house and exhibited to Governor Hubbard the marriage certificate. While this was in one sense a relief, in another it was mortifying, for it was clear p.-oof the erring daughter had gone too far to warrant any measures to return ber to ber family. The latter have do detiuite infcrmatiou up to to-night of the whereabouts of the couple. They are reported to be in New Haven or probably New York, and it is believed thst the Utter rep-jrt is comet, as the young lady is so well known in the former city that her appearance on the street would lead to immediate detec tion. This contribution to our School Literature differs from all the so called ''Southern Speakers" heretofore print ed, in th;s: that its matter is exclu sively of Southern origin. But it makes no attempt at a complete survey of Southern oratory aid literature, its chief aim being to represent, as fully as circumstances permit, the "New South" in oratory, dialectic, poetry and general literature, and omitting the hackneyed pieces which for more than half a century have done duty in all the Readers and Speakers in the land, as representative of the "Old South," thus presenting to our Schools a fresh and interesting compilation, illustrative of Southern lile, sentiment and thought in their best phases, during the excit ing period through which the States have recently passed.
