Williamson qualified yester day as administrator for J. H. Townsend, deceased. ' - Mr. W. M. Butler has moved his resi dence from Boylan avenue to the corner of Jones and McDowell streets. Mayor Powell yesterday fined two white men. J. D.- Boyle and Thomas Lodgey $4.25 each for engaging in an affray on the Elreets. ' > i Sportsmen report squirrels as being more plentiful this season than for sev eral years. Birds arc said to be rather ccarcc. Mr. E. P. Maynard, referee in the Knights of Honor cases, began the hear ing of testimony yesterday. It will prob ably be concluded today. < - m * Superintendent of Public Instruction James Y. Joyner speaks today at the school in Mangum township, .Durham, as a part of the N. C. Day exorcises. Rev. W. J. Crowson and family, of Elizabeth City, come to Raleigh today to make it their home. Mr. Crowson will be book-keeper in the Raleigh Hosiery Mills. Mr. M. A. Moser, who has the contract for huilding the hospital at Washington, ft. C., v*nt there yesterday. He says the building will cost about SIO,OOO, and will be a very creditable structure. St Augustine will play a game of foot ball with Kittrell College on St. Augus tine’s grounds tomorrow (Thanksgiving Day) at 3:30 p. m. This is the first con test between these two colleges. Rev. W. .D. Hubbard will preach a spe cial sermon to the Red Men of the city next Sunday morning. The Red Men will march from the hall in a body to ihe church. They meet at the hall at ten o’clock. Sanitary Inspector Sale fears that he will have to warrant a large number for failing to pay the sanitary license tax. It Is long past due and the city ordinance imposes a fine of $25 on those who fail to pay. Justice-elect f*latt D. Walker and O. T. Bason, of Charlotte; J. T. Perkins, J. T. Avery and S. J. Ervin, of Morganton; E. J. Justice and J. L. C. Bird, of Marion, and Sullivan Gallert, of Rutherfordton, arrived yesterday to attend Supreme court. Nine convicts were added to the num ber in the State Prison yesterday. All were negroes, and they were brought here by Sheriff Wooten, of Lenoir; Sheriff Bond, of Bertie, and Deputy Sheriff Over man, of Pasquotank. Sheriff Wooten had six in charge. A deed of trust was filed yesterday In the register of deeds’ office by A. J. Honeycutt, of Neuse, conveying all his property to his creditors, and naming E. S. Dunn as assignee. The amount of lia bilities is not mentioned, nor the credi tors’ names. Dr. B. F. Dixon, the State Auditor, left yesterday morning for Elizabeth City, where he will speak today. North Carolina Day. In addition to the exercises for the day, the Junior Order of American Mechanics will present a flag to the graded school. Rev. Tokio Kugimlya, of HiA>shima, Japan, a student, of Trinity College, Dur ham. was in Raleigh yesterday on his way to Durham from Monroe, where he attended the Western Methodist Confer ence, and made an address. After this year Mr. Kugimiya will return to Japan and enter upon his work as a missionary among his own people. Col. F. A. Olds, chairman of the Mu seum Committee of the State Literary and Historical Society, yesterday commenced placing exhibits in the Hall of History, a handsome room on the second floor of the State Museum, at the west end.
