Mr. Arthur IJutt, wh was on the porch of h'm cottage, saw her stick her . parasol in the sand, place her hat on the end -of it, throw her purse to one side and then to plunge quickly into the surf. The first wave knocked her over and she fell in water not eighteen inches deep imediately, on the. tide line. Mr. Butt with Mr. Keen and others, ran to her assistance, but she Was uncon scious 1 when they reached her, and she bore every indication of having taken some drug or poison' before rushing into ijhe. water. The drug taken j thought to have, been an overdose of nux vomica prescribed by her physician a few days before. The address on the card was written while ?he was 1n the' store of the Carl R. i-hder Candy Company before leav ing, tor the Beach, Indiciating thatl al ready she had determined to. end her life. The coroner, Dr. C. D. Bell, de cided it was a case of suicide. Her husband; was a member of the Order of Elks and an emblem of this fra ternity was the' only jewelry which she wore when she .was taken from the surf, in conformity with ".in structions left in th"i noter-Mrs. Barn- hill was buried in the trousseau which she 'wore when she was married, this request clearly indicating that her despondency was due largely to" the grief at the death of her husband.
